agree on the beating horse.
Plus I looked up my C5 in 2003, and it was 24% stick back 14yr ago !!
and FYI, when we order C7, it will be stick

Anyone whose driven a '70s vintage slush-box will demand a stick in a sports car.
However, the new generation of autos are superior in performance... most supercars (Porsche, Ferrari, etc) offer only duel clutch autos in their top performance models. The A8 in my 2016 is an amazing transmission.
That said, shifting is fun. I have a '71 C3 with 4 speed and raced Porsche 911s for 20 years, and doing a threshold brake (no ABS) heel and toe two gear double-clutch downshift into a hairpin turn is exciting, but the fact remains that the modern technology is better.
Damn, I loved my transistor AM radio, but the internet is a better medium.

Many reasons provided for owning a manual or the auto. All are valid for that person, bottom line Corvette owners should be happy we still have a choice. That makes everyone happy.

Yup, pretty much. Every time anything like this is brought up we're told that "enthusiasts" prefer manuals by an overwhelming majority - which insults 3/4 of all C7 owners, or why manual are better, etc, etc, etc.
I will never understand why manual trans owners feel the constant need to justify their purchase or insult those who bought something different.

Those of us that like manuals really like them. We're passionate because it's clearly a dying thing. Every year less and less of them are available and it sucks.

Anyone can drive an auto. Put it in drive and go.
Idk to me that is boring. Regardless of how fast it is in shifting.
I could have gotten an auto. But I purposely buy my toys in manual. And my c7z is no exception. Had to get the m7.
Until they totally stop making manuals, I'll forever have a manual car. Whether weekend or daily driver.

Safety Car
becoming a lost art
I had read this today that out of all the 2016 corvettes, only 23% come with a manual transmission. This is kind of hard for me to believe with so many guy's requesting their car have a manual transmission in it when purchasing. I guess the AUTO tranny is king after all. If this has been posted prior to my thread, I apologize. I don't feel so bad having the A6 in my C6 GS after all.

I have owned twenty Vettes over the years. The first question that most people have asked about each Vette, "Is it a stick?", just saying........

The 72 percent of 2016 automatic production has a lot to do with dealers pre ordering inventory and quite frankly it's easier for dealers to sell automatic corvettes or any cars for that matter.
If consumers were able to choose either or...we would probably see a 40 percent production level.
Supposedly the new A8 offers better performance than the manual so want to try one.

Mines a weekend car and the 7 speed is a blast. But if it were my daily driver I would have gotten the A8.

I read an article the other day about tips to reduce the risk of having your car stolen. One of them was to buy a manual transmission car since over 50% of the population can't drive one, including car thieves!

It's happened to me more than once.
And before you all go ballistic, I like valet parking when I can. Most of the time, they never even move the car or put it in the garage, just leave it up.

The fact is that about double the percentage of manuals are owned by CF members than the percentage of C7 manuals manufactured. Use whatever explanation you want to explain that.
Generally, car forum members are considered to be more "enthusiast" than the general population. But that also means that it was a 50/50 split among "enthusiasts."

Man, you're prickly, and it sounds like that was directed at me. I wasn't trying to justify anything, and I was as surprised by the poll results from CF owners as anyone.

Guilty conscience? It wasn't directed at anyone.
And the poll you like to cite in no way represents all CF members with C7s as you seem to believe; it simply represents those members who were interested enough to open the thread and vote. Reading any more into it is foolish.
I'm curious where you got the info that forum members "are considered to be more enthusiast than the general population." Do you have any objective evidence to back up that assertion? I thought not.

It's called common sense. The less car-crazy members of the population wouldn't even think of hanging out in a place like this.
Regardless of what you think about the poll, with 425 responses, the difference between 51% and 27% is statistically significant. I'd love to hear your explanation for that difference.

I also use statistics in my profession, and you are wrong. That difference is statistically significant with a 425 sample size.
The poll was completely unbiased. It was a simple as a poll can be. The title was, "Do you currently own a C7 auto or a manual?." I don't think that created a bias making some owners more likely to open it and vote than others, unless you think auto owners on this forum are less enthusiastic about their cars than manual owners. That's possible.
Whatever it means, there is a difference between CF members and the general population of 100K C7 buyers. What that difference is the only real question. I have my theory, and you don't seem to have one.
Shortly after the poll was posted, you jumped in and predicted the results would reflect the manufacturing numbers. You were wrong about that too.

Well get ready for the self driving car. Today's young people don't know the differnce between a carborator or an exhaust pipe. If they can buy a car they don't have to drive then they can text their brains out all day long...lol..After many years of manual sports cars I bought one with automatic..with that the fun was over..I quickly dumped it and bought A C6 manual then traded for a 7 manual. Loven every minute.
