Default All rims replaced under warranty

GM replaced all four rims today at no cost. Anyone else had or having issues with aluminum corrosion/pitting?

Also had front airbag recall operation done.

Do you have any "before" pics? Curious to know what it looked like to justify replacing vs normal wear & tear.

Yes, they are a bit large per resolution (one below), and sent to Cornerstone Chev also. Pitting seen on all rims, especially forward facing spokes, more noticeable on front rims...

I am having some peeling on one wheel. The dealer is claiming I hit a pothole and caused the damage even though I don't believe I did and there is no evidence of any damage to the tire. I know I didn't hit a curb either. They are offering to "give me a break" on the price of a replacement... Not sure what to do.

This is progressively worsening as well. I might try to see if I could get somewhere with Chevrolet Customer Service. I hit a dead end at the dealership.

No dead end via dealership for me. Just hope GM takes notice of issue(s) for those who take care of their Corvette

I have pitting as well (black painted wheels) but it never occurred to me to make a warranty claim on it. I just figured it would be generally written off as wear & tear.

Seems like a judgement call about what could be expected as normal vs. not normal pitting. I mean, it's paint after all... and forward facing spokes will pit/chip the same way my front end/rockers might. Windshield too, I guess.

Should we also file warranty claims against the front end & rockers & windshield pitting?

Just trying to wrap my head around expected vs. unexpected wear/pitting. I'm honesty surprised that you got 4 new wheels!

You are very lucky the dealer did that for you. Your wheels are PAINTED aluminum color...not anything else. It is very normal for standard paint to stone chip in that area. Do you drive on dirt or gravel roads? If so, it would explain it. If you were running a powder coated finish it would be much more durable.

Regarding, peeling CHROME ....that is definitely warranty covered, and is the result of poor metal preparation at the supplier. There is no solution except to replace the wheel. In the used market it would be chemically stripped and the process repeated. Check the other 3 wheels...they may also be from the same bad batch, as they are processed as a batch in the prep before plating.

Are you from Minnesota as suggested by your forum name?

Do you drive your Stingray year round? Just curious if it could be corrosion caused by road salt/chemicals in winter?

Last time i cleaned my wheels (Black Machine Faced) i noticed something like a bubble under the clear on the rim face. I figured it was from the manufacturing process.

After reading this i'm going to take a look when i clean my wheels tomorrow.

I had a blemish in the clear coat that appeared a year after delivery. My dealer replaced it with no problem.

Painted wheels that suffer nicks from rocks hitting them is not "aluminum corrosion/pitting". The service manager that approved replacing wheels that were damaged from rock chips probably should be or will be fired.

I have the black Z51 wheels and they were pitted and peeling with just over 1000 miles on the clock. The brake dust coupled with that GM just painted these wheels. They should have powder coated them. If enough people make warranty claims, I bet GM will eventually go with powder coating.

Going with PowerStop Z26 pads helps with the dust. Forget about the CarbonTech Pads - too dusty. Cost me $100/wheel to have them powder coated, and other $250 for mounting and balancing and $375 for a tire because Discount Tire was unable to mount one without slicing through the rim bead! Stay away from Discount Tire!

I think it all matters how you approach the situation with your dealer.

I had a rim on My 2001 c5 replaced after 12 years of ownership...it was showing
stress cracks.....
