2013 Mercedes SL550 or '14-'15 C7 Z51
can spend 46-58k in a new car, can only get one and I LOVE both cars.
Which car is better, Which one will hold more value with time?
Your thoughts ?

Do you like apples or oranges better?
It's really incredibly silly to make a decision based upon worthless predictions of future value. That will be about as accurate as predicting the weather a month from now.
Moreover, those two cars really aren't comparable. One is a very heavy cruiser, albeit with a lot of power, and the other is a very nimble sports car also with a lot of power.

I like both cars. For me the Corvette is a fun ride with plenty of power that will eat up the road and give you more smiles to the gallon. The SL is sweet but I am going to save that ride for when I get older. You could spend a lot of time discussing which one is "better". German engineering is great no question but it all depends on how you define "better" and how you plan to use the car IMO. I'm thinking Mercedes is likely more expensive to service/repair. All cars loose value over time. You might check Kelley Blue Book values on the cars you are considering to check depreciation over time. The number of miles, condition and how the cars are maintained are always key factors to determine value. If you test drive the Corvette first you may not look any further.

I prefer the round headlight version of the sl55 to the latest versions which have a more melted look overall. I also believe Mercedes is just about to introdice a new convertible SL and that always tanks the values of the previous generation.
If you are dead set on buying used then you would better served with a Porsche 911s ....they seem to hold values quite well and are a closer to corvettes from a performance standpoint.
From a luxury perspective I might lean closer to the jaguar f type. Pre owned they have take. A huge depreciation hit and probably the sexiest two seat luxury sports convertible in the marketplace.
My vote first goes to the corvette c7 z51, then the jaguar f type...then a Porsche 911s with PDK ....and then An earlier Mercedes SL55..

As a former owner of a Jaguar F-Type, they are beautiful and very nice cars, but they are are not more luxurious than a 2LT or 3LT C7 Z51. They are also very heavy (400 or more lbs. heavier), and if corner-carving is your thing, you're better off in a C7.

You seem to be mistakenly thinking the F-Type S is exclusively the V6 model, which isn't the case. For '14, there are V6 base (340HP), V6S (380HP) and V8S (495HP) only convertible models, all supercharged. Both V6S and V8S models carry an identical S badge.
The coupe debuted in '15 with the V8R (550HP), V6S (380HP), and base (340HP), also all supercharged. The V8R wasn't available as a convertible, and the '15 convertible was still a V8S. All 14-15 F-Types are RWD.
Starting in 2016, all V8 F-Types are R models, both convertible and coupe, with 550HP and AWD. RWD F-Type V8s are no longer available in the US.

Monk,
No he doesn't. There was no F-Type R in 2014. I know, I had a 2014. If he has a 14 V8, it is a V8S (495HP) convertible.
The F-Type R (550HP) didn't debut until 2015 in the US, and as a coupe only.

Monk,
Yes, I see it's a V8S from the S badge on the right buttock and the exhaust. V6S has the same S badge but a center exhaust, which is the only way you can tell the difference. None of the F-Types have any badges indicating engine size.
Both 14 and 15 V8 convertibles were V8S RWD models. The only R models in 2015 were coupes. In 2016, both convertible and coupes became V8R models, but only available as AWD in the US.
However, many 14-15 V8S convertible owners have managed to get their ECU's reflashed with the R software, which bumps their output from 495 to 550HP. The S and R V8s are identical except for ECU software. If your friend has done that, maybe he told you it's an "R", and performance-wise it would be.
JLR dealers won't do that, and that has to happen aftermarket, which does have warranty implications.
They are awesome and gorgeous cars, but just a little too heavy, and the V8s are not available with an MT, which is why I'm in a C7 now.

They are totally different vehicles!
Value over time - MB hands down!
I personally will get an SL when I no longer can fold myself into the Corvette.

That wont be the decisive factor, however I dont buy $50k+ cars everyday , I want to make the best decision possible, as I said I LOVE both cars, and both are at a similar price, both are good looking cars, both are 2 seats, both have big engines and both are fun to drive, so I think they can be comparable in some aspects... (before anyone jumps on me.. I know the cars also have big differences ); My decision will come out of these 2 .. 2013 sl550 or a C7z51 14-15-16 which one will you get and why? , any opinion is good so keepem coming, thank you all!
