Grand Sport vs Boxster S
Anyone making the choice between a GS and a Boxster S?
Currently have a 2013 427. Previous Vettes 2007 C6, 2003 C5 and 1974 L82.
All manual verts.
All purchased new with one Museum Delivery. Awesome by the way.
Was toying with the idea of waiting for mid engine in a few years - still love my 427 though. Just ready for a new car.
As it appears that the mid engine will be auto trans only and I only want a manual. My Suburu and Wrangler have autos. That's enough. I have been thinking about the Porsche. Similar price.
Any thoughts?

A Cayman S was on my short list along with a used Carerra S, F Type R and M4. The Cayman was nice but as a daily driver it didn't wow me.

Phillip - you ARE a CORVETTE guy. Be true to the marque. I suggest getting a Z06 or Grand Sport for a few years and see how the mid engine C8 evolves. I do think Corvette will be come a brand like Porsche and better things will continue to come at us.
Going to meet the GS I ordered in August tomorrow at my dealership and should get to bring it home on Tuesday or Wednesday. We are into Canadian Thanksgiving weekend and while I will enjoy the turkey feast I'd rather be getting my car on Monday.
I do love the avatar. My son is a pilot and mixing Corvettes and Jets is awesome.

I think the Boxster S is a great car.. Now that they put a turbocharged four-cylinder in it it's just not the same. The Porsche sound is gone. I think the car is the best looking it's ever been they should've just went with the smaller six turbo charged it. I would say you would love the car you would hate the engine
The Porsche is toned down and efficient now - the Vette is still the glorious monster machine that we all know and love.
Easy choice for me, even though the Boxster/Cayman are still great cars.

No comparison for me unless I move up to a 911. Power>handing. C7 holds its own well in the handling department now, so that makes it an easy choice... Despite what the mags will tell you.
P-cars are getting rediculously over priced.

The mid engine c8 is coming sooner than you think. It will be offered with a manual ...
Porsche boxster a are cool mid engine sports cars and I think the new turbos can be tuned to 500 hp pretty easy...or at least they should be able...
Still I'd wait a year or two to see if the mid engine c8 comes sooner than we previously expected.
I enjoyed driving the boxster s but it's really nowhere near as powerful as a corvette..and track performance isn't really even close on a road course.

I have no experience with the Boxster S so can't offer any thoughts on it. In your position, my toughest decision would be whether or not to hand on to the 427 or move on to a C7 Grand Sport. The 2013 427 Convertible is one of the most desirable Corvettes ever built IMO. Had I been able to afford one when they were being built, I doubt that I would have ended up getting my C7. As nice as the 2017 Grand Sport is, there will always be something very special about a Corvette that left the factory with "427" on the hood.

I would definitely go drive a Boxster if you've never driven one. My wife has one for her weekend driver and after having your 427 I think it will feel greatly under powered and not as fun to drive. It's a well put together car and peppy, but that raw HP feel just isn't there.
As mentioned, they have gone up quite a bit in price and their base model is truly base with no power seats, etc. Also if the mod bug hits, the Porsche tax makes the Corvette tax on aftermarket parts look cheap in comparison. Fun lil ride but to drive one and make the decision for yourself. I'm guessing you'll have a GS in your stable after doing so.

I currently own a GT4, and I've recently test driven a Stingray as well as a Z06. The GT4 is a special car, and I feel it's worth every penny.
That being said, this discussion is about the new Boxster S vs the GS. I'm now in the market for a convertible, in addition to the GT4, and I have to admit I'm also vacillating between the two......but ultimately, even given the QC issues of the vette, I'm leaning in the direction of the GS collector edition. The big hp NA engines aren't going to be around forever, whereas the FI engines are here to stay and the tech will continue to get better and better, ie less turbo lag and therefore better mimicking an NA motor. Better to let the lil' turbos grow up a bit, I think, before putting out this kind of coin for one, and take advantage of a well priced, NA, big hp motor with a manual transmission.

So it depends on what you like. If your car is a weekend mountain slayer or track/auto-crosser, you'll love the Porsche. It you spend your time driving your car mostly around town and to work, the Stingray is more fun. Both are fun in there own way and we track and autocross both of our cars.

Ainterestimg as these are both great cars....and besides auto crossing with the cones....and tight courses I'd imagine the stingray would be a bit quicker on a road course etc....especially the grand sport..
I liked the turnin on the Porsche but the power differential seemed quite a bit different...
The actual grip is favoring the new grand sport or z06...maybe even z51....

All you need to do is take a drive in a Boxster S and that will end any thoughts of purchasing one over a C7 GS.
