Anyone have an idea what the top speed would be?

I don't have any idea what the vert will top out at.

Butt....the coupe totally depends on your aero package.

With a stock car, forum members have gotten up to IIRC 187 mph at a 1-1/2 mile event with Stage 1 aero. Absolute top speed won't be too much higher than that.

I think the drag from Stage 3 will knock 7 or 8 mph off the top speed.

I imagine the vert will probably have more drag to start off with, so it will probably be a little slower than a coupe with the same aero package.

I got the idea that the poster was asking about the base Stingray, not a Z06. It would help if he further ID's his car. Stingray? Grand Sport? Z06?

If he has a Stingray, I would venture that the top speed of a convertible, with the top up, would be around 175-180.

Yeah - I was thinking of a Z06. I looked in the OP's profile, but he doesn't have anything in there about where he lives, info or pictures of his Vette, or anything else.

Yes - you're probably right that he's talking about an LT1 powered Vette. When I think of convertible, I think of my brother-in-law's beautiful C7 Z06/Z07.

I think you're correct about an LT1 vert - maybe even 170ish max.

There is one event here at Daytona that lets us run with the windows up. I know my C6's did 5-7mph faster with the windows closed - so just having windows open creates more drag.

The convertible is not quite as smooth as the coupe, and doesn't have the "fastback" profile of the coupe. I believe the C5 Z06 that has the frc profile (fixed roof coupe - which has sort of a vert profile) wasn't quite as fast as the standard coupe profile.

Apologies for the lack of info. I was referring to a '14 Z51 roadster. I'm not sure what aero pkgs are available. Going to pick up the Vette tomorrow in Denver and drive it home to Sherman, TX, north of Dallas. Haven't seen it in person yet.

BEAUTY!!!! CL

You're gonna LUV it!!!

The Stage 1, 2, or 3 aero packages are all for the Z06. The Z51 is a little bit of upgraded track package for the Stingray, but you likely won't be tracking a convertible without a rollbar/cage.

You've still got a lot of top-down driving left this fall, so enjoy it!!

Hold off on the top speed runs until you get a little time in the car!

Congrats and have a safe trip. I bought my car in Alabama and drove it home to Chicago. What an awesome experience I loved every minute of the trip.

I'm not sure what the top speed is but I have c7 m7 vert and I've had mine up to 135mph. Unless the police are watching then I am only joking.

I've had my C7 M7 coupe to 175mph. That was not top speed.

I've seen 180 in my '14 Z51 M7 coupe "testing & comparing" against a GTR before his front splitter folded back and he ran over it

Safe travels, and maybe I'll see you around! I venture up that way fairly regularly for a few BBQ joints I like.

The 2005 C6 Coupe with the Z51 option LS2 (400 HP) was advertised by Chevrolet as reaching 300 KPH or 186 MPH. In the C5 and C6 sales brochures top speed was listed for each model. A 2013 Coupe (LS3) 430 HP was 190 MPH. Chevrolet has omitted top speed numbers on the C7, probably because it is less than the C6 even though it has more HP.

Because of more downforce?

More downforce + higher drag coefficient (for various reasons, including: downforce, cooling, and crash standards).

The OP asked about the top speed of the convertible, not the coupe.

The coefficient of drag on the convertible is probably around .02 higher than the coupe's.

As a comparison, GM said the top speed of the C6 Z06(coupe) was 198 MPH, but they also said the top speed of the C6 427 Convertible was 190 MPH. A drop of 8 MPH, with the same engine, body panels, transmission, tires, etc as the coupe.

Yes, in the '13 Corvette sales brochure, Top Speed was listed for the Coupe 190, 427 Convertible 190, Z06 198, ZR1 205. Convertibles and Grand Sports were left blank because Top speed was lower due to the higher drag.

That's good to know.

My C6 Z06 is at 6315 RPM at 198 MPH in 5th gear(top speed according to GM, but what do they know?).

Glad to hear that since I still have another 700 RPM until I hit the redline, my top speed must actually be 220 MPH in 5th and after I shift into 6th gear I'll be able to hit 325 MPH when I finally run out of Revs.

Just hope I don't hit a hippopotamus at that speed. Could damage my splitter.
