HELP-Body panel gap issue-buying a used C7
Hello,
Hopeful C7 owner here. I'm looking at a used 2014 Stingray and have some concerns with the panel misalignments- the seller (used car dealer) is telling me that this is very normal and an easy fix. Any advice on the cause of this / should this be a deal killer?
Thanks All!!

That looks suspicious. Maybe an accident, I have never seen that many misfitting panels on a C7. Check Carfax. If not in an accident and you want those panels aligned it will not be cheap. If it were me I would look for another car there are lots around with low miles in great condition. Maybe have your mechanic or Chevy Dealer check it out, look underneath and see if there is a clue as to why those panels are so far off. Good luck.

Should it be a "deal killer"? Not necessarily, but it merits further investigation into car's history. Granted I'm new to vettes, this is the first time I've seen panel misalignment. Perhaps other folks can comment on that issue, to confirm that it's somewhat common to see and isn't necessarily evidence of having been wrecked. Lastly, it's my understanding that the C7 inventory is quite high, so how does this car compare with others on the market?

It's not common at all. I've carefully examined dozens of C7s and never seen anything that bad.
It may not have been involved in an accident, but it looks like an amateur has been playing around with it. I'd walk away because there are so many good ones out there.
On the other hand, if it's available for a stupid low price, panel adjustments are not terribly difficult on this car.

I've been around cars my whole life. Carfax may check out, but you never know if "he had a buddy in the business" and it was redone under the radar. Looks to me like the dealer struck gold with an auction car on the cheap. If the previous owners were that careless with the exterior, I can only imagine how the mechanical components were treated. Fluid changes, burnouts, etc...I'd walk

It's possible those panels could be easily fixed, they look like they just missed the clips when it was put back together. That's what would worry me though, why was it taken apart, plus if the clips are broken, it just turned into a much bigger job. I would have to agree that unless it's a ridiculously good deal I'd find another one.

Rooster, as I said above, I'd walk away too.
However, having been on this and other car forums for 15 years or so, it never ceases to amaze me how many amateurs try to take things apart to do one crazy thing or another, and completely screw things up.

Absolutely NOT NORMAL. Run away, really.
There are too many pristine used C7s on the to toy with one that has that many misaligned panels. Something is wrong with it. Besides you can find a better price from a private sellers who is motivated.
You've been warned.

Does the seller sound like a used car salesman??? That thing's been apart for one reason or another and not reassembled correctly. If the seller says "easy to fix" then tell him "great, fix it, call me and I'll consider at that time". NO WAY I would purchase it looking like that.

One possibility is the car was tracked and took an off road excursion. The owner may have decided to eat the costs having it repaired at a budget shop instead of a quality shop. Just for grins and giggles, did you look under the Vette? I'll bet those panels show some damage.
No matter, I'd walk on that one.

Too many good deals out there, I would pass on this one. There is or was a problem with this Vette and I would not take a chance on it.

Those two reporting places is really not worth a crap. Hundreds and hundreds of cars with wrecks have never showed up under those.
It don't look nothing like any thing I have seen before from a non wrecked car. Plus as a new owner whom ever bought it new would have taking that as a new car.
Also even as bad as GM is I don't see them letting something like that I mean all of that get out from the plant at all. Robert
