I'm assuming I'd need two for Z51, correct?

I have used the Fumoto valves on both the C7 and the F-150... I found it quicker than playing with wrenches...I also use magnets on the oil filter, 2 on opposing sides near the bottom....does it work well I hope so or maybe it is a waste of time ??

All of my sockets are 6-point, but strangely enough, all of my wrenches are 12-point

That was my point in starting the thread. After checking with professional tool suppliers ended up finding the 6 point boxed at Sears. I have 55 years of tool collection and no 6 point mm box wrenches when I went to look in my tool chest.

I guess when I tried it the baggie kept turning with the filter, would bunch up and then oil started flowing over the top of the baggie.

Are you able to keep the baggie stationary and just rotate the filter?

I just tried it once and had no success. Maybe i need to try again.

Yeah the bag stays completely stationary..... you just keep moving around a little bit at a time , twisting bag back to center and grabbing more filter....if you if you let it turn with the filter all the way around, it's gonna be a mess ...;..believe me it works

I'll give it a try on the upcoming oil change.....in the next few days when I get motivated to do it.

Ordered 2 for my Z51 and received them today.
The pictures make it look like they're big and stick out/down a lot.
In hand they're compact and won't stick out more than 1/2" ( if that ) compared to the OEM drain plug.
I do Machine work/Tool making for a living, and IMO these things are top notch Quality and a really nice Design.
Will install them this Spring when I change the oil

Everyone had only 12 point box wrench. I got 6 point box 10mm and 15mm online at Sears website. Changed oil on C7 today. Works great. Fits tight and not too long or too short. It is $9.48. No more sockets for me. See link below.

Trouble with our Volts is that we change the oil every 2 years or a little less. The plug is in too long and at times is difficult to remove. I find a socket is better . Open end tends to round off the plug.

Your link shows the Mercedes size selected as the option? Wouldn't the "Corvette" size be what we want?

Mercedes M14 X 1.5
Corvette M12 X 1.75

I conclude we need 2 of these at $52 a hit.

Every little thing like this costs double what I'd typically feel willing to pay. $25 each? Sure, no brainer. $52 each? I feel like I'm burning cash.

^ Yeah that's why I waited so long to finally get them
But after seeing them in person I'm glad I did considering how they're made.
And how much easier it will be to drain the oil now

Reviving this...

Do any of you guys with the Stahlbus valves track your cars? I'm curious if these valves hold up to higher temps. I'd hate to end a track day because a valve failed and my oil drained out.

Edit: Looking again they do have a safety cap. Suppose it's worth a shot since you won't get a catastrophic failure situation.

Have to undertand what it takes to make a quality product that doesn't leak to understand what one like this costs!

[QUOTE=Patches;1593487521]I have, among other tools, this 6-point shallow socket set with inch/metric sockets that I use for tighter access. Works great.

This is on my C5, which has limited access to the oil pan drain plug, but illustrates how it makes the job easier.

6 point sockets are needed in many instances but found the following problem with my new Grand Sport when making the 500 mile oil change!

On my 2014 C7 Z51 found that GM used what appeared to be a strong Loctite on the drain plugs. Had to get out my 1/2 inch drive breaker bar, a long extension to clear the oil cooler and used a 6 point socket.

Was prepared for the same with the Grand Sport. Brought those tools under the car. Only to find the oil cooler in the Grand Sport has more fins and the extension would nor clear the bottom and allow access with a socket. No problem just get my 12 point box wrench. It was rounding the edges of the side drain plug. Tried my 15mm 6 point flare wrench (not my normal Craftsman quality however) and it too was rounding what appeared to be a soft hex on the drain plug. Used an unorthodox method to get it off. A 6 point socket and a pipe wrench on the socket! Where there is a will there is a way! The threads did appear to have some type of thread lock.

I had purchased high quality magnetic drain plugs and installed with appropriate torque so will not be a problem in the future. If I used Loctite it would be the blue type, but never have and have never had a problem.

However, I bought a 6 point box wrench, just in case! Somewhat unusual tool but found one on Amazon! Might be a good purchase for those changing Grand Sport oil for the first time.

What I found funny and somewhat concerning is the front drain plug came out with very little torque! Too little, IMO. Go figure.

I had them on my Z51 and did not have any issues. I did have a very slight amount of oil in one of the caps when I removed it to do an oil change, where the other cap was totally dry. Not sure what the deal was, but it was a very minor amount.

The drain plug on the side of the pan(on the Z51) is very tight and it does pinch the drain hose. I put a piece of cardboard between the oil cooler and the hose to protect it from heat and avoid melting the hose while installed to drain. Not much oil comes out of this plug but it does make it drain slower having to pinch the hose.

Not sure if I will be installing them on my Z06 or not.

So basically a 15mm 6-point boxed-end wrench works best on both oil drain plugs?

Thanks. Figured I'd give them a shot. While it's probably overkill, I change the oil so frequently in track season that I start to wonder about wear on the oil pan threads. Also dropping a plug into the oil drain bucket happens every 5th time and it pisses me off every time I do it.

Yep, be sure it says 6 point. Somewhat unusual wrench, typically won't find in Home Deport etc. Amazon has several, just be sure it says 6 point or it will be the normal 12 point.
