Gasoline brand
Are there any high octane gasoline manufacturers or brands that are better than others, or are they all pretty much the same?

Not sure if a marketing gimmick or not, but I've been using Shell Nitro+ premium exclusively in the Vette. For one because it's a top tier gasoline and because of the fuel rewards program saves me a little at the pump.
I'm sure any top tier gasoline should be fine though.

I used to be a Sunoco fan, but there are fewer and fewer stations in our area these days. I now use Shell for the same reasons stated in the above post.

A friend of mine worked in the oil & gas industry, and basically what he told me is this:
All gas is the same. It all gets sent through the same pipeline, and the regular gas that Shell puts in (in say, Houston) is not the exact same regular gas that Shell pulls out in NJ. Natch regular is different than premium but they use the same pipeline, and they magically know which is which (my words, not his).
It's all in the additives, that's what makes the difference between brands. That's why I never buy Costco/BJs/Sam's gas - it's the same gas, but you're missing a lot of the detergents and whatnot that keep your injectors and valves clean and happy.

Which Techron additive? Went to buy some yesterday and found 2 varieties. One for injectors, the other for fuel systems. Guessing they both are basically the same, but thought I'd ask here first.

I use Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner. It specifically lists the DI engine application.

Ditto on Shell Nitro, but any premium Top Tier fuel will do, which I use exclusively. I also add the appropriate amount of Chevron Techron fuel additive ever 2K miles or so, per the guidance on minimizing the valve deposit buildup characteristic of direct injection engines.

Yes, fuel additives will do nothing to clean valves on a DI engine.
Top tier gas to keep the fuel system clean.
I like Shell gas but the Shell stations around here all want $.40 a gallon more than other top tier stations for premium. Regular is the same price but they gouge on premium and do not post the price at the street.

See this posting on the article in Corvette Magazine discussing the LT1 and LT4 direct injection systems: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-about-di.html
Top tier fuel, Techron and an engine oil with a low NOACK rating are all recommendations made by GM

Every time this subject comes up, a whole bunch of people who haven't read previous discussions pop in and say the same thing. So, here we go again for all the naysayers:
Yes, I'm VERY familiar w/ the DI design and the problem of coking on the tops of valves because they are not washed with fuel additives as they are in port injection.
However, GM says they've addressed the issue in the LT1, and the article mentioned in post 16 above discusses this matter in detail. In particular, GM claims there is some backwash of fuel, as well as other countermeasures to minimize oil mist and alleviate coking. Of course, only time will tell if they were successful.
They also specifically recommend using Top Tier gas exclusively, using Techron periodically, and an oil with the lowest possible NOACK number.

I too worked for a pipeline company for many years. Watched transports getting loaded from storage tanks. I can assure you the storage tanks did not have brand names on the.
