Default My local dealer is really jerking me around with service.

I brought my car (14 C7 vert) for overheating and the AC not working. (I have an extended warranty.) They kept my car for a whole week to replace the coolant reservoir and diagnose that the AC needed a new compressor, which was on back order. Five weeks later the compressor came in. I brought my car back in yesterday at 8 AM. At the end of the day they said they needed more time because changing out a compressor is a "big job." They called just now to say that they found out that my water pump was leaking and they had to order a new one. (They've already replaced the water pump once before after overheating.) Why didn't they notice the water pump leaking when they first addressed my overheating problem five weeks ago? I should have recorded the mileage when I left it yesterday morning. I smell a rat. Thoughts?

It kinda sounds like you're stuck for now until they finish this job. Is there a different dealer you can go to going forward?

At this point I would suck it up and let them finish the job. Then you can make a decision on whether to move on to another dealer.

TWO water pumps? How many miles on your car?
Did overflow reservoir have a leak/hole in it?

I guess I'm too dumb to get this.

Best of luck with your repair.

It sounds like you got stuck with a tech without a clue. Try a different dealer if and when you ever get it put of there. Good luck.

I can't say how someone supposedly trained and certified couldn't see a leaking water pump, but as far as the compressor, my understanding from a mechanic friend of mine is that the front cradle needs to be dropped as the location of the compressor is the problem. This means that your front suspension will be taken apart and reassembled, meaning make sure your car feels straight and smooth afterwards. They will have to do an alignment.
Could you please confirm that I'm correct about the front subframe being dropped to access the compressor with your dealer OP? I may have a compressor issue myself to address next spring.

Sadly these things happen in a world with human beings. My guess it wasn't intentional, but it sure doesn't help you in anyway. Sorry for your problems.

This. Hopefully a different dealer would do a better job.

Sometimes water pump leaks aren't all that easy to find. I had one on my C6 that the dealer and I chased for 2 months until I had the car up on my lift to do track prep on it. I had put the car on the lift the day before and left the car overnight. The next morning I started working on and under the car. When I took a lunch break there was no evidence of a leak. A half hour later I came back to the car and sat on my stool and saw a puddle of coolant directly below the front of the engine. The front stabilizer bar was wet and the back of the pump was soaking wet. It took about 18 hours after I had stopped the engine for the leak to make it self known. All I had before that was a coolant smell.

My dealer will tell me in advance if the work is a big job or not. It should not be that hard to tell, i believe that all the hours for work is pre-calculated so they should know this out of the gate... but there is always un-foreseen issues that can happen.
Good thing THEY noticed the water pump, and fixed it... otherwise you would have had another overheat !
How badly an overheat issue did you have, aluminum engines do not take kindly to overheats. Maybe you need more warranty

Bill, can you address my comment above regarding replacement of the AC compressor? Does it require dropping the front subframe? I'm terrified to get this done if it does require this as so much can be screwed up in the long-run if I get a careless tech.
Thanks

Do just ONE thing: go back and record your mileage right NOW.
And make sure the Service Manager knows what you are doing.

Here's the latest: The service advisor called me this morning and said they don't have the water pump and it has to come from out of state, which would take 5-7 business days. I said "Why not overnight it?" He replied "It's one of those thing that can't be overnighted" "I said "Why not? What kind of BS is that?" Then I spoke with the service manager who said "Of course we can overnight it. It'll be here tomorrow morning." My service advisor is an IDIOT!

Wow. Stay cool with them UNTIL you have your car back, safe & sound, then delete them from your life. Sorry to hear about all the B.S., hopefully we'll have a happy ending ASAP.

Thanks, guys, for all your input. I'm definitely going to sh*tcan this dealer and try another one nearby. My neighbor is a Corvette guy (He has a mint 62 removable hardtop and an 89 vert) and belongs to a Vette club. His club swears by a Vette specialist about 45 minutes away. I'm not ready to do that yet, but if this other dealer doesn't work out, I will. I'm sick and tired of the aggravation and wasted time.
