Default Replacing the head unit/infotainment screen

I was considering an aftermarket head unit/infotainment screen, but wondering if this is even an option as some of the vehicle settings are tied into the infotainment screen.

For anyone that has replaced it, what is your experience & opinion after changing the unit? And if you have any photos of your setup, can you share them? Thanks!!

Might be helpful if you described what you are replacing it with and why? For example, do you have a 14 or 15 and want to use Android Auto?

What do you hope to gain by going aftermarket?

This isn't like the old radios, the C7's head unit is so integrated into the cars systems, I don't even think it's possible.

I have a 2014 and I don't really care for the interface. I would like to add the Android Auto functionality, but do not want to spend the $1400 to upgrade to a 2016/2017 unit.

Get a Navtool if you can stomach the process. It'll let you mirror your phone.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had not heard of NavTool until you suggested it.

I am so glad I decided to wait for the 2016 so that I could get AA. Of course there was a firmware update that I had to wait for. But in the end I love using AA. It integrates well. of course there can always be improvements so I'm active on the forums for AA to try to help out.

I've heard about the Navtool thing and heard a lot of grumbling about the company and the procedures. Mirroring anything on your phone to the screen seems intriguing but I'm not sure it'd always work well. AA is not just Google Maps on your phone, it's more. It's design to have big buttons and the layout is designed for the screen. It also limits you so that you are not doing stupid things like watching YouTube videos while driving. It integrates into your car's microphone system, etc.

I think I was reading in another thread where you can get the hardware you need for like ony $999. Even said somebody got it from Ebay for $799.

I think it's a good investment but obviously I'm bias. And I don't have nor saw the Navtool in action - it may have other benefits that make it worthwhile.

Finally I don't think the Navtool is cheap.

It is possible to install an aftermarket system to the C7, but its a significant tear up (and you lose the cubby hole behind the screen). I don't know if I've seen it done, but where there is a will there's a way.
