According to the dictionary:

"road•ster|ˈrōdstər|
noun
an open-top automobile with two seats."

Hello My Friends
I have always used the term roadster for two seat open cars. I guess I'm a bit old school. Roadster just sounds cool to me.

How about this can of worms? Is the Corvette coupe (non-FRC) technically a roadster, according to the dictionary?

When I bought the 69 in 1970, the dealer called it a roadster. Never heard it called a convertible or a "vert". My other car, a Buick was a "convertible", but not the Vette.
I distinctly remember the term "convertible" used when they announced the last convertible Corvette would be the 1975 model year.
Later, when the C4 ragtop was introduced in 1986, my best recollection is it was called a convertible.

In about 1975 (C3) Era - the convertible went away for several years. When I bought my new '77 C3, in Dec. 1976, there were only Coupes with the t-tops. Very few choices really, for years.

Great place to live. Especially if one is a rail fan. Sure do miss the old steam powered units. They were so cool to watch. Especially the old helper engines. Also miss the old crummy's as they were called way back when .............. (sigh) I digress.

In fact, convertible corvettes disappeared for the remainder of the C3 generation and didn't come back until the C4 gen.

I have to agree with you on that point. Here on the CF is the first time I have ever heard the term "Vert" but its use on the Internet is simply to reduce the number of keystrokes in one's posting message.

I have an original 1968 Corvette brochure that introduces the C3 generation that I obtained when I was still in high school 50 years ago. Convertible is the name used in the brochure. Coupe and Convertible models were both introduced in MY1968.

Until I joined this forum I didn't use the term "Vert". Growing up they were called "Drop Top", or "Rag Top".

Shades of Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around With Jim". In the lyrics he refers to a "drop top Cadillac". Remember it well!

All roadsters are convertibles, but not all convertibles are roadsters.

eta: Corvette convertibles are technically still roadsters.
As its been said before, a roadster doesn't have roll up window's. It started in the 30's.

And some more gas...

You could also call a roadster a horse but then the Mustang guys will start wearing those goofy British driving hats.
