Yes sir. Waited 5 minutes to check it.

You definitely SHOULD NOT have been charged for Mobil 1.

NAPA brand full synthetic oil is refined by Ashland/Valvoline and sold under the Napa label. Their 5-30 full synthetic meets the GM Dexos specifications. Goes on sale occasionally for $ 2.99 per quart.

I believe any nationally known brand name of synthetic oil that meets the Dexos spec. is fine to use in any vehicle.

A Napa employee turned me on to these facts years ago when I was purchasing another brand of synthetic oil. I use various weights according to the specs in every engine I own.

I have a 2016 C7 Z-51 coupe and have had 2 oil changes. My dealer is small and sells 10 to 15 Corvettes a year. When i went to get the 500 mile oil change and before i started to mention Mobil 1 the service writer said they only use Mobil 1 and they would only put 9 quarts in and gave me the 10th quart to top off after i got home. My dealer has done his homework on Corvettes and that is why i ordered my car from them plus they gave a deal the same as the #1 and #2 Corvette dealers were giving at the time !!!!!!

FWIW, my last two oil changes were made with Mobil 1, full synthetic meeting GM dexos spec. It cost ~$22/5 gallon jug at Walmart and Mobil had a rebate, which lately has been every 6 months. It was $12 for a 5 quart jug, 2 allowed. Therefore my final cost was ~$2/quart for the oil needed for my Z51.

man you know they didn't touch this car - I used to check the dipstick to make sure the oil was clean - now I just do the job myself...

Just wait until you need service and you get an unknowledgable tech. My first oil change on the Z51 and they put 6 quarts of oil in it!

The Bend Oregon dealer uses the "rotating" Vette specialist. I'm not even going to use my next 3 free oil changes. I'm gonna do it myself.

Well, how about Chevrolet, for instance? If it's not a Z06 or Z51 and you read your owner's manual, you'll see the spec is for "Dexos1." Dexos1 is a GM tech criteria for oil and it can apply to blends (of dino and syn), as well as for full-synthetic oil.
So are you saying a base stingray has a blend and not a full synthetic initial factory fill??

Just had mine changed on my base stingray. They wanted to put dexos in it because of the cap so i asked about the tsb. Gave them the number to look it up, they printed it out and said they would use mobil 1 at no charge. Figured hell if i can get mobil 1 for free might as well.

According to GM and the dealer, the only Corvette that uses DEXOS blend is the Stingray.
All Corvettes do not come from the factory with Mobil 1. Only Z51, GS, and Z06 comes with Mobil1. I had same concerns with the dealer using DEXOS. We found documentation that DEXOS is the factory fill.

As the link in post 47 states, which is what many others bulletins have said, any C7 should be changed with Mobil 1, that is what the dealer is getting reimbursed for!

IMO, as stated in my post #7 of this thread, some dealers are NOT confused they are using the cap and "I don't know" to justify the "Oh-So-Peachy cheapest blend that meets the GM dexos spec (there are ~100 listed, many names I never heard of) that the service manager buys in 55 gallon drums!

That is also the easiest for the mechanics helper who often staffs the oil change bay to use! To use Mobil 1 they may have to use quarts and could pay more than what I do in 5 quart jugs from Walmat and use the $12/jug Mobil rebate (my final cost $2/quart!)

Worse, that mechanics helper may not do as it says in the Service Manual and check the oil level after filling and adjust. The Service Manual clearly says the volume in the table is an estimate. To check in a dry sump means running the engine for 7 to 10 minutes to get the oil hot. Then wait 5 minutes to let in drain from the dry sump tank baffles BUT not more than 10 minutes or an excess will drain back to the pan and give a false low reading. Mechanic can't even go for coffee!!

In addition I wonder if filling from the 55 gallon drum with a pump if it might overflow. I do my own oil changes and wrap an old towel around the fill opening and have to pour slowly or it will. The mechanic can clean a spill from the top and front of the dry sump tank. However the back of the tank is very close to the fire wall and the loose fitting cover for the cabin air filter. I wonder if that could be a reason for some saying they smell oil for a period of time after an oil, change. I have never smelled oil!

I and others, in fact, find the table volume, even when draining with the car level, is still ~1/4+ quart in excess of full!

Just some thoughts.

As did JerryU, I've been taking advantage of the Mobil1 rebate program that's been springing up like clockwork twice per year for the past several years. You can do it on-line without mailing anything in and the rebate arrives in 6-8 weeks. Quite a bargain, and if you buy an M1 filter you'll get an additional $3 rebate on it.

I now have a stockpile of 28 qts. after tapping it for three years and will keep buying as long as these rebates continue. Look for the next one around April, and usually someone on this forum puts out an alert when it happens.

Personally I don't want the dealer's washbay guy washing my car.

It's a Chevrolet and a Chevrolet dealer. Be civil to them instead of expecting special treatment and you'll probably see a difference in how they treat you.
