Get out there and drive
Hello all.
FNG here and first time poster. I've had a triple black 2015 1LT for about 2.5 years now. I started saving $$$ about 9 years ago to be able to afford a sports car. A C7 was not the car I had in mind but once I saw a '14 shark grey up close, I became obsessed.
I read the forum on a daily basis and have come to the conclusion that most owners will never drive their Vette any where near it's potential which makes me sad. Yes, I've done the Spring Mountain trip and all that but who is really going to beat their own car like those. It seams to me, that we would rather make our cars look faster than actually drive them faster by adding new grills, ground effects and all this other bling. The base C7 looks insane enough already.
I ran into a gentleman at the drag strip sporting a 2016 Callaway Z06. Had no idea how to use launch control. I approached him because he was reading the owners manual next to his car so I asked him if I could help. Things like this make me mental. I wanted to say "these are things you should know before you come to the track" but I helped the fellow C7 owner to get the most out of his Vette.
Anyway, what I am trying to say is get out there on a track. Join a club and let those horses free. Forget about redoing the hood liner and adding chrome to your engine cover. Put it on track mode, competative 3 and run it hard. If you don't know what that means, you don't know your car at all.
Hope this first post doesn't get me banned!

You get "sad" and "mental" because people use their car differently than you?
Alrighty then.

Not trying to start any friction about how people use their car. Who am I to judge. I look at it this way. If you buy an HDTV, don't settle for standard definition. Try HD at least once

Making some assumptions there with your first post. Tend to agree but there are actually a lot of members here who track their cars and run them hard. Just posted-

And a lot of us have no interest in tracking the car, but do drive it far and wide!

Think of it this way. Not everyone SHOULD drive their car to its potential. If you decide to endeavor to change this I would start with car shows. They tend to be a target rich environment versus anonymously over the forums.

I understand your sentiment, but you do come across a bit judgemental with your post.
I used to feel the same way when I first got involved in the Corvette hobby. Then I realized it doesn't matter how people enjoy their car, as long as they enjoy it.

I admire 2ndRunner's enthusiasm. It's nice to see new members who have a passion for the Corvette. We all have a passion for the car, though we may all choose to express our passion in different manners.

Not a bad first post but.......... those who track their Vettes will continue to do so, those who stretch it out on the highway will continue to do so and those who wax, polish and add bling will continue to do so.
Whatever they choose is fine with me as long as they are happy.

I don't think anyone has really experienced their car unless they have been to the Tail of the Dragon! I find this sad. OK just kidding however it is a great thing to do I recommend it highly! We did this last year in the C6 I would love to do it again in the new car.

Not everyone wants to take their Vette to a track or even to drive it close to its full potential. Could be any number of reasons for that - insurance won't cover any accidents that may happen at a track, driver's abilities are not on par with the car's capabilities, etc. People buy Vettes for any number of reasons - and it's not up to me how they decide to use them.

For me, how a car performs in daily practice on the street is the more important factor for me, rather than it's track performance. I don't particularly care how well it does on a track, unless that particular track in some way translates into how well it will do on the actual road.
