Default Brisk jolt backing C7

My 20016 Z51 intermittently has a brusk jolt when backing. Normally happens when car is cold backing out of garage or parking place. Feels like you are backing over a brick. This happens about one out of ten times the car backs up. Anyone else experienced this?

Is your car all stock or does it have a big cam in it? Auto or manual? I'm guessing auto???

Are the wheels straight or are you turning while backing up?

When you put it into gear? Or when you are moving? Is it an automatic or manual? Thanks.

Does it happen after you wash the car? Could be the pads breaking free of the discs.

As rmorin1249 noted this is often due to one or more brake pads sticking while parked and this can also occur after driving in the rain or due to temperature change and condensation while parked.

if turning, it is common to all of them with cold tires

Yup, normal. The tighter you turn the worse it will be. Doesn't hurt anything.

Your issue has to do with the extra wide tires, cold temps and turning of the front wheels. All cars with ultra wide tires have this issue, so understand its normal when its cold out, or don't turn so sharply.

Drive the heck out of it and enjoy.

It's not the wide sticky tires or the lack of Ackerman steering compensation, it's the high performance tires! Many posters report it goes away when replacing the OEM Michelin's with winter and most all-season tires.

When I got my C7, Z51 in October 2013 the first day it was 40F when I make a full lock turn backing out of my side garage the car started to "hop." Felt like the front end was coming apart! Although GM says it's normal it feels so bad that on those cold days I now make a "K" turns when backing out rather than have it bounce around. When warm I make a full lock turn to head down the driveway without any chatter or hopping!

Easy workaround in the winter to make up up for the super lateral "g" force obtained in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Frankly in Eastern SC most days in the Winter as well!

If the OP wants to know why it happens, this is a 4 page picture/text PDF I made from the research I did: http://netwelding.com/Wheel_Chatter.pdf
