Don't worry. They are not spending half a billion dollars and adding 270 new employees(26% increase) just to improve the paint on the 2018 Corvette. Their end game is not to increase the MSRP of every Corvette by thousands of dollars and not increase their profit margin.

Look at the photo of the plant with the new expansion. The existing plant has somewhere around 900,000 square feet. ACURA's new plant for the NSX in the USA is only 200,000 square feet and that includes a very labor intensive paint shop, and they still have room remaining to build several thousand cars annually.

GM is not adding another 50%+ foot space just to add a new paint booth.

A lot of speculation as to what that additional floor space is for(I personally believe it's for a mid engine Caddy to be released in a couple of years, then followed at a later date by a mid engine Corvette), but it's not solely for a paint booth.

I agree. Cadillac is fielding several cars in the Prototype class this year in IMSA. This helps promote their image as a performance vehicle. A ME car for sale to the public is a perfect fit.

I got my 2017 C7 Z51 stick 5 weeks ago, I don't know whether to be happy about this, or upset that I bought the last C7. It does sound like they will continue to build the C7 in its current form.

Doesn't matter, I'm in sports car weenie heaven either way boys.

You know they could cut their costs quite a bit and simplify the supply chain if they simply just build the car in the only color it should be built in. Just sayin.

Thanks for the updates. Sounds like the '18 model year will be a really short production run.

Thanks, I love the car, it's only about a month old, it replaced a 2007 C6 that I had for two years. These are the best cars I have ever owned (traded the C6 vs. the new C7).

Chester, NY. Orange County (home of OC Choppers), we are 45 miles (by car) to the George Washington Bridge. I'd say that's like 40 miles NW of NY City in a straight line.

Need to keep an eye on this. Was planning a Museum visit and was hoping for a plant tour as well in August as we are planning on heading that way to see the eclipse!

Can't agree with this. A mid-engine sports car for Cadillac doesn't fit the product porfolio at all. They aren't Ferrari. Have you seen the majority of their lineup? Have you seen their customers?

To me that would make about as much sense as naming two different cars with the same name, and just changing the first letter. Whoops.

Michael

Yes, I'm one, though I don't look in mirrors. I have a CTS VSport. 430 HP, 0-60=4.7. The CTS-V is even faster: 640 HP, 0-60=3.7, 6.2 L V8. Sound familiar? Or how about the ATS-V: 464 HP, 0-60=3.8. And who won the Rolex race that the C7.R team just lost? Cadillac. Didn't they post a drag race vid of a runway race here recently? It had a couple of vettes, I think a BMW and a CTS-V. Guess who won by several lengths? Cadillac. They don't build the Cimarron any more. It's not the 80's. I think you misunderstand the Cadillac demographic.

I think Cadillac is finally building some very good cars now. They have performance models of their sedans with the V-series, but that doesn't make them a Ferrari. How many V-series do they sell a year? You can take a fraction of that who would buy a low slung, impractical mid-engine Cadillac two seater. GM works on volume. As far as demographics, the average Cadillac buyer is 59.5 years old according to Fortune magazine. We are not talking about a young crowd who is going to crawl into a low slung two seater.

The age demographics of Cadillac and Corvette are similar. The subset is different. Cadillacs probably appeal more to the person who needs to transport more than 2 people or have mobility issues but the average age is probably very close. Based on who I have seen at car shows, there are 10 Corvette owners over 55 for every one under 40.

That's funny. According to strategic visions, the average age of a corvette buyer is also 59 years old. http://www.corvetteonline.com/news/2...ounger-buyers/ Nobody is trying to be a Ferrari. Whether they want to or not, bot nameplates are attracting the same age buyers. Age is not an argument.

Kind of want to cancel my order now. 2018's will be here and now we know of major changes by October, my enjoyment of my C7 will be reduced once they come out

They are going to have to pretty much lay the cards out on the table at the Bash this year. I wonder if they will even have any 2018 models there. Im assuming they will have to have a pilot build of 2018s soon.

I'm just going to throw a WAG out there and say that pilot build is going to be April 14-17 since there won't be any plant tours on those 2 days (Friday and Monday). A bit close to the Bash dates, but a good possibility, none the less...
