Clearly there are still issues. I'm not buying one now. Thanks for the info.

I had been using mine for a couple of months in my 2016 Z06 (March 2016 production) before it set a CEL the first time while on a trip to the Smoky Mountains. It was the typical locked in 4th gear and that was cured by a restart; I cleared the CEL with my Innova scanner. I had it happen a second time a couple of weeks later and from that point until I parked the Z06 for the winter I left the A8 in manual mode. I have version 7.7 of the Range software and will send it in for an update soon hoping that something beyond 7.8 will be available by then.
I would assume this is a version of the same issue that has created problems for awhile and that is network collisions that cause communications errors between various controllers in the vehicle. There is a lot going on at startup so this is why the problem normally happens then and turning the Range module on a few minutes after startup should reduce if not completely avoid the problem. Even without the Range module GM has had problems with this issue. My 2008 Cadillac CTS would sometimes have failures with parts of the audio/nav system when remote started due to network collisions and I would have to stop and restart it to restore functionality.
If you are having issues beyond the usual CEL associated with the 8L90 being locked into 4th gear in the forward range then there may be something wrong with your particular Range module or perhaps it is not properly seated and is making intermittent contact in the OBD II port. The locked in 4th is annoying but easily cured by a restart and having this happen intermittently is still preferable to the torque converter clutch issues that are aggravated by AFM operation. I have the Z06 so AFM is very rarely active unlike its behavior with the naturally aspirated 6.2 engine. With the LT4 engine you can leave the transmission in full auto for most in town driving and switch to manual/paddle shift mode for highway cruising where AFM will sometimes be active.

I have one that I purchased last month. It said version "V8.0" on the box . When it works,it has works flawlessly so far . I say when it works because I unplug mine regularly since my car is not a daily driver and sometimes when I plug it back in , it does not work and the car goes into V4 mode .

The OBD II connection port wasn't intended to constantly have items plugged/unplugged and that will lead to worn contacts very quickly. I use an extension cable with power switch for mine, it was around $10 on Amazon. Just leave it plugged in and switch it off when you leave the car.

Yes. 2016 Z51. Diabler purchased from Range in August. Inconsistent CEL and limp home mode, but approximately 1/20 startups. Range has been great to work with, trying to understand and resolve issue. I've been testing a beta 8.1 unit for them, for one month, and it's been faultless so far.

Firmware was latest production 7.8. Day one was great, no v4. Day 2, not so much.
One thing I will say is that they shipped it fast, and returned my money fast. I might get it again when the bugs are worked out.
