renting one is a really good idea, way better than a "test drive"
I have one on order now (waiting is brutal)
obviously I can't test drive it, buy I did go drive one at the dealer before I pulled the trigger
last vette was a C3 so pretty different animal

It would be nice to test drive one, but maybe not needed unless you are concerned about how well you physically fit in. I was an early adopter in 2014. No local dealers even had a Corvette. I read, researched, and paid attention to comments on here. I thought I had all the info I needed and went ahead and placed my order with a dealer 260 miles away. Never been sorry.
Good luck with your decisions!

Test drive yes, but do it locally just so you know if you prefer Z51 vs. base ride quality, what options are a must have, etc. (assuming you've not done that). Then after finding one that checks all the boxes take a long drive. I found a few 14's that I drove far away only to be disappointed that condition was not as described.

Didn't test drive mine either. Actually, the dealer said they don't do test drives on new corvettes. They said to rent one. Always thought that was peculiar but, I was new to the Corvette scene...

Definitely test drive as many variations as possible. Honestly, I was not in the market for a Corvette, but was looking to trade my 08 Cayman S in for a newer model, and was also looking the Jag F Type R and the AMG GTS which I also drove. But through a friend's urging, I decided to test drive a Z06 the last time I brought my Tahoe in for servicing. The car had a severe TTO in track mode and I was sure the car was trying to kill me. But it was so much fun to drive, from the wonderful noises of the exhaust and the G forces pressing you into your seat upon each gear shift, and you have to love that rev matching. It was nuts, but in a good way. But I have race cars and didn't need one for the street, so I test drove a GS which was so much better balanced but gave you the same sensations of the Z06 without trying to kill you. So I ordered one, but test driving them is a given.
I am 230 lbs and 6' tall and ordered and tested the Competition seats which fitted fine. As for buying, I ordered mine from Macmulkin, a vendor in NH on this forum, for 12% off MSRP which was over $11,000 in discounts. They have over 100 cars on the lot and if you pick one of those, they are offering upwards of 15%. So even if you had to pay $1K for shipping, it may still be financially beneficial. I tried getting all my local dealers to match or get close to the 12% discount and they all refused, so I will be making a 4.5 hour trip in May to pick up my car. Good luck.

Im sure I can find one locally to at least use for a test drive...The only thing I am dead set on is a M7 and at least 2LT....I dont really know if I need Z51 as I do not plan on tracking the car at all.

After driving my new C7 for a few hundred miles, that was my impression - the new Corvette feels like a far more sophisticated car. Between the better suspension, steering and interior (those are the biggest factors, there are others) it drives like a much more expensive car. The C6 drove like a $50K car, the C7 drives like a $200K+ car.

I came from a 2012 C6, all it took me was to sit in my 2016 C7 and we bought it- in fact, we bought a manual- at the time I didn’t even know HOW to drive it! However with the help of my Husband, I’m now a pro and LOVE my Vette!

I'll order a new one, and hopefully be afforded the opportunity to drive it before inking the deal. I haven't driven one, or even ridden in one, but trust I will like it. I'm hoping not to be claustrophobic in it. I have sat in one three times in the showroom, to date. I find the C7 a bit "closer" in the cockpit to me, than my new C3 I bought 40 years ago was.
If I run across a used one to buy, then, test driving it 10 or 15 miles, should not be a problem to the sellers - I hope.

You don't need to test drive it. After owning a C5, I bought my C6 without ever driving one, and then my C7 without ever driving one. Each generation is similar enough that it will be familiar, but better than the last. Get ready to grin, a lot.

My dealer said if they test drove corvettes they would have 200 people lined up to test drive one every weekend. Maybe they'd sell more that way? But coming from a C6 I didn't need to test drive the C7

Bought my C5Z and C7Z without any test drives. Did the research and knew what I wanted, no regrets. However, I did test drive my S550 and LX570 several times as there are many competitors in those classes. To each their own...

One thing you will notice about the SEATS and the M7 is that there is so much more thigh support, you will have to adjust the seat a little differently than an automatic. Normally you might have the front of the cushion up a bit for support but since the seat cushion is so much longer than a C6, you might find it interferes with your left leg as you engage and disengage the clutch pedal. I found that keeping the front part of the cushion down a bit frees up movement for my left leg. You'll see what i mean.

C7 of the Year - Unmodified Finalist 2021
I bought my 2014 C7 Z51 online without a test drive and had it delivered to me from 500 miles away. It had 3000k miles on it and I ordered a full Carfax report that showed it being a clean title car. It was a reputable dealer and the car was everything I expected as in my mine what could really be wrong with a 3000k C7 with clean cCarfax and no accidents. By the way, I over the years have bought three cars online and had them delivered and have not had any issues. Good Luck and Enjoy the C7 as it is a great car!

I had never driven a Corvette and bought mine without a test drive. I did sit in one first and that was all it took. Such a great car with so much power and torque.
I love mine!
