New C7 Z51 owner in St Louis area
Got my first Corvette yesterday, a '16 C7 Z51 in Race Yellow yesterday. I think my 15 yr old son was as or more excited than me when we picked it up.
Came from a '16 Mustang GT...it's amazing the difference between the two cars.
Any tips or advice for a first time Corvette owner, I'm all ears.
Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on scoring an awesome ride!!! My biggest advice is to spend many hours on this site doing research. There's a wealth of knowledge here and just about every question that you can think of has been asked here (several times).
The first mod that I recommend is to remove any sticker and/or license plate frame that advertises the dealer you bought it from.
The second mod that I recommend is GM splash guards (part numbers can be found on in this link): http://www.mglphotography.com/Cars/C.../Splash-Guards
Enjoy your new ride and be sure to take your son out with you to enjoy it!

I have a 2016 Z51 that I purchased in August. Never heard ayone recommend splash guards. Can you give me some insight as to why you recommend them?

A friend of mine orders all the corvettes for the dealership near me. He doesn't let one leave the lot without them. For the obvious reasons, Paint Protection as shown in the pic/link..

Safety Car
I bought my first Corvette last year, and it's by far the most fun I have had with a car! I was surprised by the level of attention it gets. People come by to look at it, talk about it, take photos . . . so my advice it to rehearse answers to:
How much did it cost?
How fast does it go?
What is the gas mileage?
Is that a Z06?
What year is it?
The forum is a great place for quick replies to technical questions.
Have fun!

Drifting
Spend some time driving it on uncrowded roads and play with it a little to get used to the feel. Then spend some time figuring out all the features, owners manual is pretty good at explaining most stuff.

First of all congrats, beautiful car.
Second I would spend some time in the owners manual. There are so many features/options with this car and not all of them are intuitive.

Congrats, good looking car.
Good advice above - I second spending some time with the manual. There are a lot of bells and whistles on this car and you will love getting to know them.
As an aside, I can't believe this winter, where shorts can be the uniform of the day in St Louis and other normally colder parts of the country. It has been at, near, or above 60 degrees here for most of the last month! Great Corvette driving weather even though I don't let the colder times keep me out of the car.

As bosco1 mentioned above, it's to minimize the chance of rocks and debris hitting your paint as they are thrown from wheels. The tires stick out pretty far on these cars which increases the chances of it happening. The GM splash guards are a relatively inexpensive and easy to install mod. Others will suggest to add side skirts as well, but they are a bit more pricey...

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on getting that beauty. You never forget your first. Only suggestion I have right now is to drive her, and enjoy. Also, don't forget to wave.
BTW, get ready for your son's 16th birthday. "Dad, can I borrow the Corvette?"
