Hard downshift into 2nd gear
I just picked up my 2017 A8 Grand Sport in Germany. I had not driven it yet, my sister picked it up from the dealership and dropped it off for me to ship overseas. My car is downshifting extremely hard into 2nd gear only. Is this normal for a brand new A8 or is this a sign of the dreaded torque converter issue.

Could be but if it is new with very few miles I would drive it for a while and let it "learn". If the hard downshifts continue then I would get it in to a GM dealer to have it checked out. Are you in Germany? I read that GM was getting the Chevrolet line out of Germany. I hope you have a dealer that can service the car under the terms of the warranty. Good luck.

Just talked to GM they said since I am military stationed in Germany they will cover the warranty work. I will post some updates once I can get to the shop and get it diagnosed. Pretty stupid that a brand new corvette has a messed up transmission...

I agree, it's not normal. I had just a few rough 3/2/1 shifts coming to a stop when it was new, but then it learned to skip 2 and go from 3 to 1. Since then no problems. Now if you manually downshift into 2nd at too high a RPM you can lunge a little, but that does not sound like the problem.

Melting Slicks
I haven't noticed this issue with mine. I do notice at some rpm/throttle position it will surge when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd.

Nah, it happened in automatic mode. Just stated shooting forward going from driveway to garage. It's a hard shift to second in manual mode going from third to second.

Not yet I have an appointment next week. Mine has gotten worse since I got it. The other day my check engine light came on and the car was stuck in second gear. I had to clear the codes to get the car to shift out of second. It was the code for a stuck or shorted solenoid.

I think I might postpone until we see what's wrong with yours.

Mechanic called me today after looking at it for 7 days and told me they are ordering a new transmission. Being all the way in Germany I am sure I won't have my car all summer...
