Default Radar displayed in rearview mirror - Anyone used this?

So I am looking into an installed radar detector and stumbled across this which is very appealing to me. I am aware of my local laws using laser shifters and concealed radar detectors and that is not what this question is. I am curious if anyone has gone this route or possible drawbacks I am not thinking of. It supports escort 9500, valentine even plx gauges to see your boost etc...I am thinking radar route but I find it interesting - auto dim will work.....Not long ago a rearview mirror was just a mirror so swapping it is no big deal but now its part of the car - I would assume i would loose OnStar as I know that is in the mirror. Am I missing anything else so I can make an educated decision? Thanks guys and gals.

This is just where it displays - the radar detector will be in the grill

Please tell us about your laws regarding "concealed radar detectors". We'll be driving through Texas soon.

Had a friend that had the Escort 9500ci installed in his C6. He said it worked very well. His display was mounted into the dash.

The downside is that the 9500ci retails for $1995. Then the mirror display would be an additional $499.

Default used SR7 Escort custom mounted

I have a concealed/ custom installed Escort SR7. It was in my CTS V and then in my C6.
I had it removed when I sold the C6. It save me many many times. The only problem is at a certain speed (135 mph) you cant slow down fast enough. Im upgrading my C7 HPE700 to the 9500ci with front and rear shifters. It is $ 2K installed right but worth every penny if you have a heavy foot. BTW- I got it down to 106 MPH before I was in front of the Radar gun. $740 + school & Points. Shifters are worth the upgrade from what im told. I will also be looking at the mirror mount.

I don't think there's any issue with radar detector location in Texas.

I didn't think so either, but OP mentioned it in his first post.

That's awesome! But $2500 is a lot of coin. I have a 9500ix hanging from under my mirror for a fifth of that. Not as classy though..

Radar detector is fine, but like anyplace else some officers take offense.... the laser shifters are not legal.....but he would have to search the car on a speeding ticket.....more why I'm going concealed lol .....

for anyone exploring this route - I did get an email back from them - it will not lose onstar:

"We stock the factory mirror for your Corvette and can do a core exchange with your original mirror. We are able to preserve your auto dimming and OnStar so you will not lose any of the mirror functions. We have everything here in stock, just give me a call and I can take your info over the phone. "

Hmmm, it'd almost be worth $500 to get rid of the red & blue onstar lights from the rear view mirror....forget about the detector part.
