2017 convertible top
2017 g/s my top makes a popping noise when going up and then locking back down. I tried it two times and got a overheat warning. Had a 2014 and never had problem. Any one else have any info? Dealer is clueless.

My 2017 top makes popping noise too. My 2014 top was perfectly silent. Others have discussed the overheat warning on their 2017's. I think it had to do with a bad switch or something forcing the pump to continuously run.

Sounds like a new parts supplier and a defective part. It's definitely not normal, and I've never heard anything like this on earlier MYs.

The popping noise you hear is the latch releasing on the top cover & also the locks releasing on the top. My 2016 Z has the same noises, but no problems have existed. The over heat warning does happen at times if you run to top up & down without a rest period between uses. To cure that problem, you will have to disconnect the battery to reset the tops computer.
However if you are still concerned, have your dealer take a look, but I think you will find the noises are normal. The C7 top operates totally different from the C6.

I'd keep riding the dealer. Not normal unless it's a new "feature". My 15 works great and makes no spooky popping noises after going up and down a zillion times.

My 2014 worked like a charm. My new 2017, only had the top down once in the showroom on delivery day. Today would have been the day if I wouldn't be stuck here in frozen Nebraska. OH the pain!

My 16 did it at the dealer day I bought it last July. They replaced the left hinge but it still pops at times. I can never figure out what is actually popping. I greased every part I could reach and it still does it at times. Doesn't seem to affect anything so I just live with it. My 14 never popped in the 2 1/2 years I had it. Overheating is a problem as there seems to be no cooling properties in the system.

My '16 has been silent since new, even the latches. My '06 C6 was silent for the whole 9 years. Something isn't right. Do stay on the dealer.

Can't wait to hear the outcome. I've been thinking of going back to a drop top. Btw, my '15 Z51 never made a popping noise.

My 2017's top is slightly different, doesn't have near the fuz my 2014 had and the fabric is stretched tighter. I also noticed a slightly different motor sound during operation.
