There is an automatic wash near my house that I have no issues taking my Corvette through. Nothing whatsoever touches the car, you drive up to the middle of the wash and stop and then the sprayers move around your car and soap it up and rinse it. Then you drive slowly out through the dryers. I like to drive my C6 once every week or two during the cold months, so it will sometimes get a bit of salt dust on it from the roads and I would rather not let that sit for too long, so that's when I'll take it through the automatic wash.

I got stuck in that Delta Sonic once. I was in back of a Ford F250 and the guy had oversized tires on the thing 3/4 way through the tires got wedged in the track and it shut down the whole wash. They tried to drive him through the rest of the way and a tire caught on something and blew up. The Guy from Delta Sonic comes banging on my window and tells me they have to call someone and winch him out and my only way out was to back out blindly through the tunnel and all the hanging wash spaghetti pads it was a nightmare!

Also, most of those car washes have an underbody spray, and I drive my cars year round. Better for getting the salt off.

Thats funny. This 9157 guy here takes his through the car wash and damages the backside lip on his rear wheel and then sells them to me without disclosing that in the sale. So no, Z51 wheels are an issue.

The nearest car wash that would accommodate my car is 30 miles away. Probably the reason I'm so comfortable with a sponge and bucket...

And since it's been raining non stop here for weeks, I've taken to putting on my rain gear and washing the car during the storm. Pounding rain does a great job of rinsing the car.

If I was unable to wash it myself, I'd probably just call a mobile detailer.

And results in a water spot free rinse...

Default Water Softener

New to the forum and trying to feel my way around. Have a question, and since I value and respect everyone's opinion I thought that I would ask this question. I live in Florida and don't always have the luxury of washing my car in shaded areas and constantly fight water spots. I'm thinking of tapping into my home water softener so I will have a hose bib to wash my car hoping to eliminate this problem. The salt content in home water softeners is very minimal. Your thoughts, pros and cons. Thanks!

I was driving to a funeral in my C63 AMG a few years back and needed to do a quick wash. The back 2 rims were scratched pretty bad. Luckily I had the wheel package and they were repaired for free. I did learn my lesson though.

I always have the same guy at the car wash hand wash my C7 vert. He does a great job, right down to cleaning my brake calipers with a toothbrush. I give him a $5 tip. It's worth it.

I have new state-of-the-art water softener system connected to my hose bibs, and I still fight water spots. You need a deionization system to eliminate water spots. CR Spotless gets the best review, and I just ordered one.

Default Corvette Commandments

Corvette Commandment # 5:

Thou shalt keep thy Corvette clean and waxed at all times, yet thou shalt not bring thy Corvette to an automatic car wash.

I've got a buddy that is on his 4th Corvette in the last 30 years - he's amassed more than 400,000 miles in Vettes: C4, C5, C6, C7.... all of them have been run through automatic car washes and yet always bring top dollar on sale or trade...

Just watch what kind of car wash you use.... these things are not delicate..... at the end of the day they're all just cars - that includes both my C7 and my F-car.

I saw a C7 just last week here in Arizona going through an automatic car wash. Seemed to be ok out the other side.

And I thought I was the only person who washed cars in the rain..

When it's cold out I use a touchless wash that doesn't use wheel tracks. Works great when you can't do a hand wash.
