Default 2017 C7 Grand Sport Build - JDP Motorsports

JDP Motorsports ordered a 2017 1LT GrandSport from Riverton Chevrolet in Sandy Utah for the soul purpose of building the Ultimate Street Car.

Picking up the Grandsport from Riverton Chevrolet

Taking delivery from Riverton Chevrolet

We currently compete in the USCA (Ultimate Street Car Series) in our 2016 Camaro SS which features a TON of prototype products from our partners and JDP. We take General Motors vehicles and we develop products based on the short comings found in a production car.

2016 Camaro SS Development Car on the road course.

2016 Camaro SS Development Car on the Speed Stop.

2016 Camaro SS Development Car on the Autocross.

We took the win at the 2016 USCA event at PPIR in our first season with the new platform.

The first order of business was to get the car lowered but we wanted to do it the right way so we contacted our friends at LG Motorsports and acquired a set of Billet Drop Spindles. It completely changed the look of the car and improved the CG.

Lowered 1" via LG Motorsports drop spindles.

These are a work of art!

The next order of business was to install our JDP Motorsports extended wheel studs. These studs have a knurled end for easy lug installation and they are stronger than the OEM units.

JDP Motorsports wheel studs

We ordered our Grandsport with the Z07 Package but we opted out of the factory Aero pieces as we wanted to put our own touches on the car. We contacted LG Motorsports for their Carbon Front Splitter and side skirts to give it a more aggressive look while providing function. We also sourced a OEM Z06 Carbon spoiler to complete the initial phase. We plan on adding a vented carbon hood in the near future as well.

GM Z07 Carbon Spoiler

We received a 18x11 Forgeline GA1R Open Lug Cap Wheel to test fit over the massive Z07 Carbon brakes. We have a few millimeters to spare and it is a tight fit but these wheels will be wrapped in a set of BFG Rival-S 315/30 F and 335/30 R tires.

The next modification was a new shifter. We felt the factory shifter was very spongy and it felt very numb. The MGW is a complete replacement and the difference is feel is incredible. I typically opt for the Competition **** as it has a good weight and it fits my hand very well.

MGW Shifter

We also installed the DSC suspension controller and we'll have feed back on that with back to back testing in the very near future. We are very excited to see what this controller does and we'll report back ASAP.

DSC Suspension Controller

We will be making a lot of changes to the car over the next few months as we get it ready to compete at the USCA event at the National Corvette Museum (NCM) in early June. We'll have our head and camshaft package installed, MSD manifold, American Racing 1-7/8 Headers, Airaid intake, DCS Suspension Controller, Brey-Krause harness bar with Safecraft harnesses and A LOT more!

Optima Ultimate Street Car event at National Corvette Museum Track

On grid ready to roll!

Grid with some of the baddest street cars on the planet.

Nice side shoot with the Forgeline GA1R Open Lug Cap wheels.

Talking with one of our competitors.

Th Road Course!

Grid with some of the fastest street cars on the planet.

This isn't possible without the best team out there!

We finished 2nd in GTS in our first USCA event in the Grandposrt. We took a hit in the design and engineering segment but the car performed amazing!

Stay tuned as we take our Grandsport from track capable to track MONSTER!!!

Kind regards,

Jordan Priestley

We added the Anderson Composites Dry Carbon hood with a fabricated heat extractor to effectively utilize the vented hood. This hood is weights 8 lbs and it looks amazing, it didn't hinder my cross view at all and it improved heat extraction while creating additional down force. We will paint the hood and clear the exposed carbon after.

We also added a cartridge in front of the AC condenser as we were having issues with rocks and debris hitting it.

Kevlar Honeycomb Insert to protect the AC Condenser and Radiator.

Powertrain Upgrades - Round 1

We installed a new prototype JDP Spec Centerforce 8.75" Triple clutch and it is a very nice piece! We did sacrifice some drivability but the throttle response and engagement is excellent. We will test it at the next USCA event and report back with our results.

We typically don't pull the engine in this manner when doing a clutch but we did since the heads were off the engine for the Stage III 650HP Package upgrade. This is a package we offer that has been very successful in our testing and it makes great power with excellent reliability.

You can find more information HERE on our website. The components included are as follows:

  • Halltech Stinger-R Induction System
  • Nick Williams 103mm Drive-By-Wire Throttle Body

Suspension Upgrade Round 2

We struggled with the DSC Controller with communication issues and we knew we needed more adjustability in the chassis. We have been working with Ultimate Performance and JRI for years and the development coilover package for the C7 was ready to be installed and tested. We also decided to install LG Motorsports spherical suspension bearing in the control arms along with the LG rear toe links. To top everything off we installed a set of Hotchkis adjustable sways bars. We also developed Simulators for the magnetic ride deletion and modified rear lower control arms for use with drop spindles and 18" wheels for additional clearance.

We got the car under 3300 lbs without the driver.

The next USCA event we participated in was and we ended up in a tie for 4th with another dismal Design and Engineering result. The car was fantastic and this is one of our favorite events of the season.

We took the Grandsport up to a local SCCA event a few weeks ago and we were very pleased with the performance. We installed a set of LG Spindles and did a good alignment on the car. We're technically not SS legal due to the OEM tire (180 TW) but that's the class we ended up in.

SCCA Autocross

We were able to come home with the 3rd fastest raw time and 3rd in PAX. The course was suited towards a smaller car and the only vehicles that bested us was a shifter cart and a M Series BMW.

I will make an additions to the top post with the latest mods as well. We installed an MGW shifter and a DSC controller. We're also installing a set of Forgeline GA1R Open Lug Cap Edition Wheels in an 18x11 F and 18x12.5 rear making way for a set of BFG Rival-S 315/30 F and 335/30 R tires!

Stay tuned!

Default Updates

It's been awhile since our last update as we've been extremely busy in the shop. I posted up some pictures of our new Anderson Composites dry carbon hood with our duct and I will add more info above shortly.

We've competed in two Optima Ultimate Street car events this season in the Grandsport with some interesting results.

You can read about our first event at NCM HERE on our blog. I will work on adding info on the forum as well.

We are wrapping up our recap of the last USCA event we ran at PPIR and I will post a link to that here shortly.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate the support and have a great day!

Kind regards,

JDP installed a DSC Controller and a Catch Can in my C7 Z51. Nice people to do business with. I’ll be back this summer for a MGW shifter Jordan.
