Confused about brake pads
I'm replacing my front brake pads with ceramic, and after searching, judging from what people have recommended, I'm going with Carbotech 1521, but am open to current opinions on other brands of ceramic pads.
My confusion lies in that there doesn't seem to be a size difference in the pads between Z51 and regular when ordering. Mine is a Z51, which I thought had bigger brakes (with the assumption of bigger pads). Help! Can someone explain it to me?
Also, since I am replacing my front tires, I was going to have my tire shop do the brake job at the same time. They've done brakes on my C6s, and I trust them, but is there anything special they know about or should do for the ceramic pads?

Another alternative is Power Stop pads. They've gotten great reviews on here:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ke-pads-2.html
When my oem pads wear a little more, I'm going with the extreme edition of the Power Stops.
P/N's: FRONT: Z26-1474A REAR: Z26-1718
There's nothing different or special to the install of any of these, it's just a straight swap.

- Power Stops are great. I had the CarbonTechs and ditched them for the Power Stops. Why pay the Corvette Tax unless you like putting forum vendors kids through college? Lots of threads on this site with all the information you could possible want.

I've had no noise on my OEM Brembos, or the Carbotechs.

I also went Powerstops. Ordered front and rear for ~$85 on Amazon after applying for their store card and then just cancelling after paying the bill). Super easy install too. Took me two hours and that was with washing and waxing the wheels. I have only had them on for a couple drives but there is considerably less brake dust and I do not see any performance difference in them over the stock pads.

The Carbotech 1521 will 100% made in the USA quiet low dust will not harm your wheels or paint.
Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

^^ See reply # 3 above for the part number for Z51.
I bought mine ( for Grand Sport / Z06 ) at Amazon. They seem to be about the least expensive site, especially if you have a Prime membership for free shipping.

I've run the powerstop Z26 pads on both my 2016 SS camaro and 2017 Gs for 10K miles cumulatively. Ran Hawk ceramics previously. Powerstops are every bit as good for a fraction of the price. They really are great. No noise, no dust and no apparent rotor wear. I won't ever consider running anything else at this point. I actually have an extra set of fronts that fit a GS or Z06 (#1405) if anyone is interested. Send me a PM.

I find it allows me to finish washing by using a small microfiber cloth to clean off water drops from the mirrors, spoiler, wheels etc. I usually also apply tire dressing at that time just before I park. FWIW.
If that is the only time they squeal perhaps that is all that needs to be done. My OEM Z51 pads started to squeal soon after the 500 mile break-in. Solved that by using the bedding procedure outlined in the Owner's Manual for racing. However instead of their ~20 aggressive stops suggested I found 8 to 10 followed by their recommended cool down without stopping, solved that problem.
The loud squeal was happening on light peddle, slow spreed stops and was embarrassing! That pad bedding puts a thin layer of brake pad material uniformly on the rotors. An article noted that to maintain a uniform pad coating on the rotors you need to apply the brakes aggressively from time to time. I have a few turns where I do just that-for fun!

Can you verify the part number you bought for 2017 GS? I've checked two sites and both say #1405 does not fit this vehicle.
