Default New Corvette driver!

Nice Sunday afternoon cruise with my 15 yr old son who has handled driving responsibilities very well. In SC you can get a beginners permit at 15 and a restricted license at 15 1/2. So... we cruised for a bit and I asked him if he had his wallet with him. Don't think he believed I was serious until I stepped out of the car. Started out in a church parking lot on a fairy deserted road. He only stalled the M7 once, and dealt with shifting pretty well after that. As you can tell, he was all smiles...

Bill

Hide your keys!

Such a great story. My son turns 12 this summer and has never shown any interest in my cars until I got a Corvette. Twice now I have found him in the garage looking at it with this really cool expression on his face.

Awesome! The smile says it all. My 8 year old is obsessed with corvettes already. Can't wait for that day with him!

I always love seeing pictures of parents letting their kids drive their cars! I ALWAYS have let my kids drive mine with no regrets. Show them you trust them and (usually) they do the right thing.
I also believe it helps show them that with hard work they can also have some nicer things in life.

When my younger son got his permit at 15 his first experience was in our '03 convertible we had at the time. It was an automatic, so no extra training required. We did it in my work parking lot initially then graduated to the streets. When he got his license I let him take it for his first solo. His older brother could have have the same treatment but I had my '97 6-speed at the time and the manual was more than he wanted to attempt so he opted for our '98 Camaro Z28 convert. I always felt letting them experience 'fun' cars to start would help them appreciate them more. For first cars they had used Mustang GT's and Grand Prix GTP's with no accidents or tickets to this day, and they're now 30 and 26.

Glad to see that he only stalled it once ! an M7 can be pretty intimidating for a young driver... you have given him a memory that will last his whole life.
I did the same with my boy, i had just purchased a 2008 Pace Car and as soon as we got to the backroads at the cottage, i got out and let him drive it...

for letting your son drive the car. I'm sure he really enjoyed it.

One of my grandsons is turning 16 next month - I need to let him drive my car (of course with me in the pass seat).

He's a Forza and GTA addict, so knows the general idea of shifting - very different in a real car though!

He is definitely a car guy, that's for sure. The wheel is a Caravaggio. Thanks!

When my youngest daughter turned 18 we took it for a drive. She was so nervous I do not think she got to enjoy it as much as I hoped.

She went to college a month later expect she will drive it a little more this summer.

Bought my first corvette at 18yo. It's never to early to start loving, driving, and enjoying corvettes.

Both my kids have driven my cars and shot my guns. My daughter doesn't drive a stick so she hasn't driven my current car but then my mother bought the same car as me in an auto and my daughter and I drove it down to Florida. It was a great bonding trip! my son drives a WRX so a stick was not an issue he jumped in the drivers seat and fell in love I would rather take the curiosity out of the equation some with guns the experienced everything under my supervision so I don't worry about them sneaking something out of my house.
