There has been a bill introduced every session over the last 10 years and they never progress out of the transportation department also DPS lobbys to get them shot down.

We can only hope, but odds are not on our side.

Since GM came out with a decent grille mounted bracket, no big deal anymore. All my cars already have front plates mounted, so I don't even notice them anymore.

This option is also good... with body color duct tape, it practically disappears!

State Troopers seem to care a great deal. Local LEOs, not so much. Since the toll roads around DFW are patrolled by DPS and having been stopped by them for nothing but the lack of a front plate, I have the front plate on mine.

I agree that this bill will go no where, as it has in every legislative session for many years.

We have the same situation here in MN; it gets proposed every year and the law enforcement groups get it stopped in its' tracks before much momentum. My wife is a lobbyist and knows all the legislators/enthusiasts who try to promote it but to no avail. About the best that's been accomplished is that Collector plates for 20+ year old cars do not require a front plate.

My front plates reside safely in my trunk.

I'm on the carpro email list and as soon as I saw that I immediately emailed the representatives (which I think is the first time I've ever written my rep). That would be so awesome but as others have said it has been proposed before but never gained traction.

I carry my front plate mount around. If I ever hit the interstate from now on I'll be sure to carry the plate too... just in case. But I've not had any issues here in CA along the 5 and 101 (North/south) and 10 (east/west)

With all the cameras keeping eye on the roads, I'm surprised anyone cares about whether the front plate is on. I just got a ticket for violating the fast track lane (yes, it was intentional) and they got me by my rear plate. I don't even know what the value of a front plate is, anymore.

There was a news story a couple of months about about an off duty cop who got busted with a device that covered his front and rear plates ( a 'curtain' type covering that went up and down). Now THAT's what I need.

I never put one of those ugly things on the front of my car... so I don't drive drunk in the vette.

Moved back to TX in 1997, never put a front plate on. Yearly inspection doesn't care, and have been pulled over a few times in those 20 years and cop never said anything about it ..

guess depends on the cop

about 8 years ago a bill with repeal provisions did get approved by the House. Then the repeal provisions quietly got stripped from the bill in a Senate subcommittee before it got voted to the Senate floor. Too many special interests blocking repeal every legislative session.

The front license plate is a safety and identification issue. I like 'em for those two reasons.

In states that require them, these bills almost always fail. They usually never even come up for vote because such a tiny minority actually thinks it's an issue worth wasting time on, and it's tough to build a cost/benefit argument for why a front plate should be abolished.

The "I hate the way it looks," or "we could save 25¢ per registration" arguments get laughed at. Senior law enforcement officials usually line up to say, it's important to keep them, and it's over.

The only way to make things like this work is to hit 'em were it really hurts: the ballot box.
Nothing moves politicians like a threat of lose of their power.

If EVERY car club in the state of Texas banded together to get this thru, it would happen.
If every club member, along with their families, make it clear to those on the committee who oppose they would automatically lose their votes in the next election cycle and their opponents would receive a cash donation to their respective campaigns...
