Default 2017 GS or 2018 GS

I have my order for a 2017 GS all worked out for ordering my GS. GMS pricing, trade value, color combo, options . Planning on placing order first week of April so not waiting to last date for ordering 17 April 13, With being so close to the 18 model year and a few people posting about the POSSIBILITY OF 18's being built for a few weeks after June 5. I'm considering waiting and ordering 18. My only concern is loosing the Spice Red interior option. I'm also planning on a 2-3 % price increase for 18. I was told by a dealer not the dealer I'm ordering with 18 orders accepted 4/13 with dealer allocations 4/27 has anyone heard any thing about order dates for 18. Last how long does GM normally run the interior option such as Spice Red, Twilight blue they have been available for 16,17 what about 18 think yes/ no. What are your thought on how I should go forward. Thanks Dave

I would buy the car so I could drive it rather than waiting. It sounds like you're ready to do that, so that would be my advice.

I would buy now especially while the deals are outstanding, and you have a trade value you seem to be good with.

You don't know what '18 model will be, perhaps enough changes to make it a hot commodity again, perhaps your favorite color goes away, perhaps your current trade value tanks..... perhaps the price increases, and the dealers don't have much in the way of deals.

enjoy it now..... if you find that the '18 ( what ever that turns out to be) is just over the top exciting for you, you can always sell the '17 or even wait for the '19's to come out.

You can never stay ahead of the "new model" syndrome. Buy now when deals are great and start driving.

You can always find a reason to wait. The GS has just come out and I highly doubt there will be any changes between the 17 and 18. The only change I see is the price for the 18 vs the good deals on the 17's. Your trade will continue to go down in price. While we are speculating, my dealer said there was a good possibility that the GS was only going to be built one year. So get yours now and enjoy it.

I'm ready to buy and your correct I don't know about changes maybe A10 tranny or more HP ? The deals on in stock cars aren't a factor as I'm ordering with GMS pricing so my discount won't really change from 17 to 18 with the exception of possibly loosing corvette loyality. If the info about 18 build dates are correct I wouldn't be missing out on that much drive time from 17 to 18 maybe a month or two, assuming GM would build sold orders before retail orders. Thanks for your replies ,Dave

My main reason for thinking 18 is A10 tranny as I'm going to order a automatic. As for the deals on 17 the color combo I want isn't common and I have to order so all the in stock deals really don't play a factor. The one year of GS is the first I heard of that and to me doesn't really seem to make sense GM is selling a lot of GS. C6 GS ran for 4 years I would be willing to roll the dice that that doesn't happen if it did ZO6 then for wide body. Thanks for reply,Dave

I believe you can still wait for the 18's because when the option package comes out later this year and there's still going to be plenty inventory out there on the 2017 models that fit your liking. Then you can compare the two models and pull the trigger without any doubts.

Sounded like you already made up your mind to order a 2018 before you started this thread
Good luck with the car regardless.

I was in the same boat, and decided to place my order now for a GS 2LT rather than wait....now I just have to wait for them to build it!

No just the opposite ,all set to have dealer summit order, told dealer on Friday that I would call end of next week to place order before cutoff date of 4/13 for 17 orders, but saw post about paint shop posted today which brought up possibility of early 18 builds in June ,July instead of late fall. That post got me thinking of 18 sense build might be only a month or two and not a fall build.

My big reason for having to wait and buying now and not in winter when all the big discounts were going on I could not find color combo I want and had to work out trade which snow made difficult to do deal . I recently was able to work out deal on trade value and finalize every thing and were still getting SNOW. Enjoy your new ride ,Dave

FWIW, I have heard the shut down could last a more months than what we had been told. Might be waiting until September!

I considered the same but decided my 2014 price would drop (I sold on my own) and the deep discounts currently for Grand Sports might not be there for an 2018. I also will have my car (in 2 weeks) sooner to enjoy.

You may be playing Russian Roulette and not like the result. Your choice.

Get what you want now, enjoy it. Nothing in 2018 to wait for.

So Spice Red Interior was mentioned - I'm not sure on the lifespan of an actual interior versus exterior colors. Someone will have to help out on that one.

Otherwise, the only changes I see in the 2018 that would be exclusive to the Grand Sport is the new exterior colors in general and a possible...possible HP boost. The 2018 colors are pretty much guaranteed since everything for 2017 will be "legacy colors" EXCEPT for Sterling Blue. At least we know that much.

The way I figure it, if I don't buy now, I'm not waiting for the 2018 lineup "right" when it comes out. I'd just wait until next Spring, but then I'm suspect to running into the same situation; only one year later. That's an endless cycle which can easily be broken by making the deal and placing an order as soon as you have the budget for it. For me, that was February 24th.

My thinking as of yesterday was 17 GS because of shut down and fall build and my 04 would be worth less waiting to fall, but I saw post this morning regarding Paint Shop and saw his thought about POSSIBLE 18 build date got me thinking . All I'm asking is IF you were about to order a 17 and could order 18 with same combo, options for 2-3 % more above my GMS pricing would you get 18 .Big discounts for in stock aren't a factor to me because the combo I want Blade Silver ,Spice Red interior I have only found to one in AZ so I have to order to get what I want. You are right regarding playing Russian Roulette it would be with the Spice Red interior.

The only upgrade I would care about getting in 18 would be a A10 if that didn't come about I would happy still cause I will have a C7.

You put the hammer on the nail ! The big question is the life span for the Spice Red interior will it be available for 2018 ? That's what I wish I knew. Unless some info comes out in the next week or so ,It looks like it will be a 17 I really like Spice Red and don't want too roll the dice and loose that interior choice. This will be my one and only new corvette purchase so I want to get it right. Thanks , DAVE

Im in the same boat. My thoughts are this, the last day to place an order is in April, but the production goes through June (I believe). The dealer should be able to change an order until a certain part of the ordering process. Why not wait till the bash and see what the 18's are about? If there isn't much change, contact a forum dealer that Im sure will have plenty of orders in and see if they can change the order..

I don't know if you can time it like this. The last day to order is Apr 13. The bash isn't until the end of Apr. I think an order place on the 13th would be past 2000 by the bash.

I think it comes down to how flexible you are. If you are willing to take something off a lot then waiting until the bash and then either buying off the lot or waiting for 2018's seems like a viable choice. If what you want is exact then ordering now seems like a better plan.

If it helps I just ordered. One, I wanted museum delivery so no buying off the lot for me. Two, since I live in CO, if I wait for a fall delivery I am basically waiting a year since a car received right before winter is likely to be garaged until next spring.
