Default C7 reliability

I have a 2001 coupe I have really like owning. I have had it about to years. It had 46K on the clock. I am lusting over a used 2015 Z51 LT3 coupe with less than 6K on the odometer. Will I be taking a Hugh risk trading up to a C7?

Nope, jump on it brother. I expect the C7's to be as reliable as the C5/C6 generations. You won't be disappointed.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.
Reb,

I think I am about there. Now to get Madeleine on board. She loves the C5. Hopefully, that love is transferable.

Thanks again,

John

You will not regret stepping up to a C7. Looks, performance, and reliability are all part of the package.

I would be concerned about long term reliability if it were an A8. Read the many, many threads about the various A8 issues. GM still seems to have no clue. Mine was replaced with 100 miles on the clock but most are taking more time to show problems.

If it is an M7 - go for it - very reliable.

Thanks for the reply Flame Red. I am looking at a C7 Z51 LT3 with 7 speed manual.

They have sold a boatload of C7's since the car was released in 2013. Outside of transmission issues on the 8 speed auto you really don't read about major issues.

If you buy used really do your homework. Make sure you have the service records for the car (GM dealers can pull it), make sure the warranty is not flagged (you can call or chat with Chevy Customer Service to get that info), pull the Carfax/Autocheck and do a very good visual inspection.

You can also add an extended warranty via GM for peace of mind before the warranty e piers. Just search the forum there are some forum sponsors here who are usually much cheaper than a dealer.

I traded a C5 for my 3LT, 7 speed Z51 Coupe. Do it. You won't regret it.

If reliability is your primary concern, you should check out Lexus. Very nice cars but, not a Corvette. You just gotta HOPE it is. Meanwhile the fun you'll be having is just amazing. Car is a rocket.

Go for it. I have one of the early build C7s (10/13) and have 12k on the clock. No problems except for a infotainment screen replace (under warranty) which was a known issue on the early ones. If you don't love this car, you don't love cars.

Keep them both, I did. I still enjoy driving my C5. Put 250 miles on it today.

I have had my 2014 for 3 years and it has never been back to the dealer for anything except a couple of recalls. (neither of which kept me from driving the car)

I went from a 2000 C5 (with 78K) on the clock to a 2016 Z, man what a awakening, you will not regret the move, & the M7 trans is a blast to drive especially when the Rev Match is turned on. Go for it. Purchase a extended warranty for peace of mind.

Only 8,500 miles on my 2016 since I purchased it new last July, but it's been 100% reliable.

I get it John. My wife was the same way about our C6. But, with just one ride in the C7 she was ready. I think your Madeleine will come around.

Dude...................
We have 35K on our 14 Z51 3lt m7 with no issues.

The wife enjoys it as much as I do.
We just returned from a 2200 mile trip. Best touring car I have ever owned in 50 years of doing cars!

This car is a huge step in design over the previous cars.
Let your wife drive one and it's a done deal!

Find new roads!

My C7 LT1 has 38k miles driven all in Arizona. I too have had very good reliability...except:
1. Early out of the box failure of the center screen-was replaced under warranty. I came to understand that there were some early manufacturing defects. Was replaced in 2014 (same year as I bought it) and good ever since.
2. More sinister: I had my car detailed. On the way home, about 20 minutes or so out, everying warm and running fine. Was doing about 30 through my town when I lost everything on the displays. No center display, no driver's display, gauges all went to zero. No turn indicators, no click-click. Car continued to run perfectly. XM radio continued. Got home, shut down, waited a few minutes, restarted and everything was fine. That was 2 months ago - haven't had the issue since.
3. Occasionally the turn signal clicker stops clicking. The chime that indicates the door is open and stuff like that goes silent at the same time. This issue has been going on since I've had the car. I reported it but it always works fine at the dealer when there for service (of course.) Doesn't bother me too much and I guess, except for #2 above, I haven't seen that issue for at least 6 months.
4. Sometimes I can't get out of the car after shutdown. I've attributed that to, while back in the garage, killing the engine before putting car in park. It's also happened (I think) when I would sit in the car for a few minutes after parking to finish a song or something else on the radio. Of course I can get out by pulling the latch on the floor. Again, not concerned too much. I think I got a warning letter from Chevy about this issue reminding me that the pull switch was there just in case the electric door buttons wouldn't open the door. I think this is more of a software issue.

For the other stuff, I have an A6. Perhaps not sexy like the A8 but rock solid. I've also had not one issue with the engine, fuel management system, AFM, breaks, electric top (gotta have a convertible in AZ). My cockpit is the same as the picture above. Just beautiful.

All my GM cars have been reliable and this one isn't much different. I suspect that as the cars get older we're all likely to see electrical or computer issues. The above isn't written to dissuade just communicate. I'd buy the car again.

Hope this helps.
