This wouldn't surprise me. I would not let strangers examine the stuff in my house or garage. I always make sure my garage is closed when landscapers and/or workers are near my home.

I have a NO SOLICITING sign on my front door.
If that doesn't work and they ring the Doorbell, my growling Mastiff comes to investigate and that is the end of that.
I have to laugh at some of these solicitors. I have a "No Soliciting" sign next to my doorbell button. Can't miss it. When I answer the door and point out the sign, I often get "what does that mean?"
