Z06 tires
has anyone else replaced the Z06 (CUP2) tires for everyday driving in ALL weather conditions (well, I do live in Florida.....so not ALL conditions.....lol). I am thinking of installing the Michelin PSS ZP's which I had on a previous 911 and really liked them. Would appreciate anyone else's idea or thoughts

I dunno Bud Man. Seems like the engineers spend a considerable amount of effort working with Michelin to develope the SC2 tires. All season tires just aren't as stable as dedicated performance tires no matter what they say
On a side note, my favorite tires to drive on are winter tires. Something about the ride and grip. On my other vehicles of course.
Sounds like you smoked those 335's.

The non-Z07 PSS ZP tires will be much better in moderate rain than your Cup 2 tires which I expect is your major concern in Florida. Although not like an all season tire they still do a better job in light standing water than what you have now. I have driven in some pretty heavy rain while on a trip with PSS ZP tires on my Z06 although I did put the mode selector in weather just in case

THANK YOU NSC5..... that was the input I was looking (hoping) for. I really liked the tires on my 911 but wasn't sure if the performance would be the same on the MUCH more powerful Z06. Putting it in "weather" mode is a good idea. Sounds like these will work just fine. I am not at all comfortable with the CUP tires (I only have 400 miles on them). I guess I will pull the trigger on this and move on....THANKS again

You are welcome. I remember shortly after the Z06 was released someone totaled one on the interstate with Cup 2 tires during a moderate rainstorm. For the really heavy rain even the PSS ZP will be a handful given the very wide tires and lightweight car but they are much better at channeling rain and are a better all around street tire.
On edit Michelin just introduced the Pilot Sport 4S which is supposed to be an upgrade over the PSS ZP and the 4S does NOT mean 4 season, it is still a max summer performance tire. But the last information I saw shows the Z06 sizes won't be available until much later in production so it looks like the PSS is the best current choice.

With only 400 miles on them those Cup 2 tires will be wanted by someone. When they come up on the C7 Parts forum here on CF they sell pretty quick.

The Ron Fellows school pulls off the Cup2's and replaces them with PSS on all cars. I'm glad they did too since my day 1 was in the rain.

Using weather mode is a good choice with any tire you choose. The sheer size of the footprint makes any of these tires dangerous in rain. Another thing to remember, and this is for any of your vehicles. If you are driving with cruise control engaged and you encounter any wet conditions disengage the cruise control immediately.

Thanks FLORIDAMARK......... I had them on my 911 TARGA and loved them. Thanks for verifying that they will do fine on my Z06 as well. I do not understand why they put the CUP2 tires on Z06 street cars...... I don't think that most Z06 owners go anywhere near a track with the cars and that is all those tires are intended for...... certainly not for daily driving in rainy Florida!

Myself and my best friend both replaced ours with PSS... and the cup 2s were easy to sell to track lovers of the world.... the real issue is making sure you have a shop that knows how to mount them....its not easy

I run Cup2s on my ZR1. I disagree with the comments that the Cup2 tires are for track only. I like the traction they provide on the streets over the PSS. However, I don't drive it if rain is in the forecast. Have been caught out in a light rain without any problems, but wouldn't to drive with the Cup2s in heavy rain. From my experience driving my Z06 home from Houston in some heavy rain, the PSS tires are not a lot of fun in heavy rain, either (but better than Cup2).
