Default C7 local MPG in Eco mode

I have 2014 z51 corvette with 15000 miles. Recently I just found out that my local mag only have 15 per gallon or even less in Eco mode ..........last 400 miles best is 15 average is 13.6.........I know traffic maybe the problem, but even I live in the LA shouldn't be that less. Is there something I need to change or check out ?

I assume you have an M7, and if so you should be able to do better. My new GS M7 (same gearing as Z51) is doing 20.7 for its first tank of gas run almost totally in the suburban area around my house. I use Eco after the car warms up and also use hypermiling techniques--e.g., anticipating stops and coasting in neutral to red lights when possible. Makes a big difference in mileage and doesn't slow you down if you do it right. Try to avoid sitting at stops for long, as it really chews up your mileage when you're idling in V8 mode.

I could get right at 20mpg in my 2015 A8, but this GS seems to be doing a bit better. Did not coast in neutral with it but did anticipate stops by decelerating as early as possible when I know I must stop up ahead. If you do a lot of driving in a given area you'll soon figure out the timing of the lights, and that helps, too.

OP - depends on where you're doing the majority of your driving. If all city driving, could be right where you are. If mixed with country or non-congested hwy driving, sounds very low. In 2000 miles, 40% city, 60% hwy miles, I'm averaging 19mpg. I use eco on the hwy, but otherwise am playing with all the modes. Eco does help!

Around town, I drive in E mode and am getting about 24 mpg, this on my 2015 Z51, A8. Even our "around town" driving is pretty wide open. I suspect the stop and go driving of LA is pulling your mileage down.

My ave around Houston suburbs are around 15.5 mpg on Touring mode.
So 13 in LA traffic sounds about right...

I get about the same in L.A. but I don't let it bother me because I didn't get this car for MPG.

I just drove a 110 mile all freeway trip at average speed of 76 miles per hour and got 27.6 mpg. I was in Sport mode with my M7.

It's not the car -- it's your environment.

You are experiencing the two biggest MPG-killers there are:
1) constantly repeating "start/accelerate/stop, start/accelerate/stop" cycles;
2) time spent stuck in traffic just idling -- getting 0 mpg.

Between 13 and 15 mpg sounds about right for those conditions.

On my commute, which is 50% in town, and 50% normal freeway (normal speeds, not stop&go), I have been averaging a little over 21mpg with my manual transmission in Sport mode (no V4 activation).

Nothing wrong with the car, just where you live.

If you are in stop and go city traffic that might be right on target. I remember reading some reviews in Consumer Reports, and they had what sounded like incredibly low MPG ratings until you looked at their methodology. Their city measurements were based on stop and go, idling, etc., much in excess of what the government standards are.

Maybe check on your next expressway trip and see if those figures are reasonable (mid to high 20s or even low 30s) before you worry.

I'm a little surprised at the low mileage, admittedly, I don't live in LA... but I do drive frequently in Dallas and San Antonio and, on occasion, in Houston....

My overall average mpg for the past 7 months is 25.9.....

I never run in economy mode... have almost 40,000 miles on my car in two years. (MN7)

Stop and go with lots of idling will kill efficiency as has been stated. Check you instant fuel economy and you'll be lucky to be in double digits except when coasting. Look at your average speed, it will likely be below 30mph; those getting higher economy numbers, say mid 20's, will likely be above 40mph.

Sounds about right.

On my 14M7 non Z51, eco doesn't activate unless I'm in 3rd or higher, and speed is steady at 34+ for 15 seconds or so. Touch brake or clutch, back to V8 you go. Stop, and you are in V8.

Translation - Eco is not very effective in stop and go/city type traffic.

Around town, I average 17, with or without eco mode. The few road trips I've taken, 29-30 in T/S/Tr, and 31-32 in Eco. Most trips have average speed around 80.

I average about 14-15.5 mpg in San Diego, so that's about right.

There are a few 2-3 minute lights by my house, and I can just see the gas gauge drop as I wait.

Wish it had auto start/stop to save gas while just sitting still

The problem with auto stop-start is the philosophy, it would be perceived as heretical to not have that V8 rumbling during idle. But I agree, an optional auto-stop feature would be nice; sacrilege, but efficient.

Starts and stops is what kills your mpg, I live 3 miles from work with 9 effin stop lights drive in sports mode all the time and get about 11 mpg but when driving on freeway got 29 mpg going to San Diego.

With my Range AFM defeat device on keeping my engine in V-8 mode all the time, I obtained 17.3mpg on my last tank driving in city and a few highwau bursts. I will add that I do NOT drive for fuel economy so I'm thinking that 17.3 in V-8 mode means I am not using enough throttle considering what y'all get in V-4.

A plus for ECO mode in heavy city traffic. Throttle response is slower and makes it easier to drive smoothly. (Unless you insist on being a hot rod at 15 mph.)
