But by 1990... 66 Coupe 427/390, leather seats, pw, side exhaust, knock-offs, gold line tires = 28,500.

I actually went to look at a genuine 427 Shelby Cobra in a Georgetown garage in DC back around 1969/1970 when I had my 67 GT500. Price was around 4 or 5K for his used 65 or 66. Another guy bought it while I was there.
And I looked aver a Ferrari once in a used car lot on US1 in Beltsville. Was not high dollar like these days. And that long Jag XKE.
Ended up back in Vette and never strayed again. 68 427 CV with many more to follow.
Maybe it's for the better that I never had a genuine 427 Shelby Cobra with their value over 1M these days. That would have been a temporary toy for sure, knowing me. And I would have kicked myself in the butt every day the rest of my life for ever selling something like that.
We met Carroll Shelby once on a cruise set up by Carlisle. Was invited to a party in his cabin. Real down to earth good guy. He had a full life.

I would have never been able to hang on for long, let alone into the late 80's. I'm just happy I even entertained the notion once and went to take a look. But I sure would like to go back and do some things all over again. And the seller of these cars. Wonder how some of them feel.

Only if I had kept it into the late 80's, early 90's. I'm just speculating that the value at that point would have at least matched a 430 67-69 Vette? Say 100K at that point? And that sure would have felt good cashing in. But from then to now the market for those three has really gone off the chart.

[I][B]I collected baseball cards as a kid...and in 1972 I had a Honus Wagner baseball card in my hand I could have bought for $2,000. My Father understood collecting very well but believed that was way out of my comfort zone...I am sure I would have sold it at age 17 to buy a car and in 1977 that card would have been valued at $10-$12,000. Today that same card is worth close to $2 million dollars...if not more.

#2 - Nice "Thank you" note cards some guy had made to thank his salesman (Mike Furman, I presume!) for being the world's #1 Corvette salesman!

Somehow I missed this last week. Love the old pictures with the people in them! Did we really dress like that? Do you still have those red Criswell Chevrolet fobs?

Old Reliable V
I found that white Corvette Funny Car driven by Dave Strickler from York PA very interesting. I watched him race 62 and 63 409's at Aquasco Md and York.
He stated once he would burn that vette to the ground before he'd let someone drive it. Handled that bad. Never knew he had that one till I read up on it. And he had many more cars on track. A legend from the 60's. He died in 1985. Still got a newspaper clipping of his '62 Bel Air bubble top 409 on the track.
thnx for posting that one for us.

note that Old Reliable Chev shown was his 62, not 63, as stated in the article.. Also not the date of article. The day before JFK was assassinated.

His bubble top was much much faster than mine but mine got me into my first Corvette just one year out of HS. Felt like King of the Road but Dave Strickler was the better driver. Anyone in the NE remember him?
