Default Vengeance built turbo 2014 Direct Injection 5.3 Silverado Build..

No explanation necessary for WHY we would build a turbocharged '14 Silverado, but it is worth noting that this truck shares many architectural, mechanical, and electrical features { Direct Inection/VVT/DOD/E92 ECU) with the '14 Stingray () and what we learned here will be applied to future projects...

Not that this is all about the tech, this truck flat out RUNS and the single Comp Oiless CT43 Billet Ball Bearing 67/70 Turbocharger made massive gains on the dyno and street on just 6psi, picking up over 152-rwhp and 169 lb-ft of torque!

Turbo System:
Comp Oiless CT43 Billet Ball Bearing 67/70 Turbo .96 AR
Tial MV-R 44mm Wastegate
Tial Q Blow Off Valve
All Stainless Steel hot side
All V-band connections
DEI Lava rock heat wrap
Bell 12 x 18 x 3 Intercooler core- VR custom fabricated endtanks
Complete Turbo System designed/fabricated/installed in house

Let's back up a second and start with how this truck started life. Our customer arrived at the shop with 430 miles on the odometer and was interested in having us fabricate a custom turbo system... Who were we to argue?! BUT, for the sake of science, we decided to dig into the truck in stock form first, then we tuned it, then we added a custom Comp Cams camshaft (Retaining VVT & DOD (for now)), then a stall converter, and then we finally built the turbo kit. Why? Science.

The results were in-line with our expectations... with the truck performing very well at each stage.

Stock: 314/340 vs. Tuned 318/357:

Tuned: 318/357 Tuned vs. Camshaft+Converter+Tune: 333/362

Camshaft+Converter+Tune: 333/362 vs. Turbo+Cam+Converter+Tune: 466/509

From the top:

Unfortunately, we ran out of fuel supply at 6psi but we'll be installing a new camshaft (deleting DOD) with an upgraded fuel pump lobe soon and then we will turn up the little 67/70 to see what it will do. Stay tuned!!!

The upgraded fuel pump lobe interests me. I was wondering if it is more volume, more pressure or both that you are looking for. I would think the mech pump is going to be the key for the forced induction mods. Is gm giving hints on this or diesel guys? I am curious as to the brainstorming behind modding the mech pump. I understand if you do not want to say. Great for us guys who work in a silverado and play in the vette. Thanks.

That cam really jacks up the consistency of the power delivery.

I'd forego the cam with such a modest power increase and just run the turbo system. I'm not a cam fan anyways for a street car. No thank you.

But if you can get a near 50% power increase on the stock fuel system, that's great.

If you can do the same with the Stingray, we are looking at a 600whp+ capable stock fuel system. That would be awesome. 600whp will satisfy the needs of almost anybody, excluding the insanely power hungry guys that like a 1000hp street car that they can never fully utilize anywhere.

The truck has a smaller pump and smaller injectors...

600RWHP to 650RWHP should not be an issue for the Stingray.

We are known for a few of these types of builds as well ... Our naturally aspirated 440 LSX makes 1059 HP and turns 9500rpm

Nice work on the truck. That has be be one helluva sleeper.

FWIW, the 4.3 V6, 5.3 V8 and 6.2 V8 truck engines use the same high pressure fuel pump as the LT1. GM part # 12625817 is the part number for all 4 applications.

The injectors are different for the 4.3 and 5.3 engines in the trucks, but the 6.2 truck engine uses the same as the LT1

Nice to know. The torque rating on the 6.2 truck is almost identical to the lt1. I think those 2 engines are really close in construction. Any comments from those who have taken both apart?

Our customer dropped off the truck this week for additional upgrades while he is at sea (engineer on a submarine )

We will be installing a NON DOD camshaft with Comps larger fuel pump lobe and seeing what we can get out of this lil 5.3 in the coming weeks. Ill update this thread as progress is made.
