The GM Battery Maintainer is built with a Switching Power Supply that usually does not work reliably with GFC's

Yet another reason not to buy the GM one when aftermarket ones for less than half the price will more than do the job (and not have issues with GFIs......)

Nick,

These are the spots that can be used for jumping. According to the schematics, it's a straight path to the battery without any relays to switch the connection off mid-path.

The GM charger is simple. Plug one end into the Power outlet in the trunk and the other end into a 115 VAC outlet. NO BRAINER!

Is the Battery Maintainer tripping the GFI?

Could be a hassle for some folks...I believe the area where my previous house was built required all outside (including garage) outlets to be GFI.

Theta,
if I may draw upon your expertise again, please....

The Positive terminal you describe, with the flip-up cover/lid...

I see it, but I cannot flip that cover up.
It appears to have a little "lock" tab on the right (passenger) side,
and it appears to have hinges on the left (driver) side, where I suppose it hinges from.

But I cannot figure out how to release that "lock" so the lid will swing up.
And I don't want to do much prying, and break any plastic "bits".

Any suggestions, please... and thanks.

Re Battery Charger
As previously stated buy the C7 charger and plug it into the power outlet in the trunk.

Where did you find the schematics?
Thanks in advance.

I see this has resurfaced. My plan to reuse my C6 charger for the C7 has become fact. I use a magnetic connector that is located on my front grill to hook up the C-Tek. Here is a thread on the details of how I did it.

This is the link to the forum sponsor that supplied me with the parts.

The handle swings up from the rear toward the front. It has 2 press releases on the inboard and outboard side at the handle that you must push simultaneously and then lift up on the handle. You don't have to pull the handle much past 30 degrees and the socket will fit over the nut. Push down on the handle when you are done and the latches will snap back to locked.

eboggs,
yes, I know about the handle... it swings up easily.

It is the little cover/lid over the positive wire/post which I am referring to.

However, this morning, I tried again.... it took a little work, but I was able to
finally get it to "pop" loose, and then swing (hinge) open.

So I have now fastened the 2 (positive and negative) wires of my Battery Minder
to the 2 leads/terminals as shown in the photos by Theta.

I don't want to use the trunk cigarette connector... I want to use this
under the hood connection instead.

All is good.

I just plugged it into the cigar lighter in the back and closed the hatch on the wire. The rubber gasket is plenty thick enough so it does not pinch the wire.

This works great for me also. No problems at all with mashing the wires or weatherstripping. Yes, half-closing the hatch will leave the hatch interior lights on ... but only for about 10 minutes, then the C7's automatic timer will shut them off. Seems much simpler and easier than going to all the work to add connectors to the underhood wiring.

Leaving the hatch open will remind me not to drive off with the tender still connected!

My 2008 Zo6 can drain the battery. But the ZR1 and the 2014 Stingray have no worries. I can go months and they will start. I have gone 6-8 years on stock battery's. For me I don't find much value from using a maintianer.
The C7 doesn't seem to have an issue like some C6's did.
