Default How do you route the battery maintainer?

Since I'm in the habit of hooking up all of my batteries that I don't use every day (motorcycles, trailer, lawn mower) to a battery tender , I purchased the corvette battery maintainer.

The question is, where so you route the cables?

Right now I crack the drivers side window and hang the cable out the window.

A more ideal solution would be to put a battery tender cable directly on the battery and route it somewhere that I can get to under the car so it's easy to get to.

Any ideas?

The drivers window?? Hmmmm.... the C7 battery is in the passenger side rear corner....as is the plugin for the tender. I just latch the hatch to the first "click" which leaves the hatch open slightly and let the wire hang out the passenger side back corner.

Will the alarm still set if the hatch isn't fully locked? It's in a garage, but I still like to have everything locked and the alarm set.

You can also hook your tender up under the hood, which I think is much easier then in the back of the car. There is a positive post on the rear side of the fuse box in the engine compartment.

Thanks YellowC5. I'll hunt around for that. The engine compartment sounds like best spot.

I was avoiding the passenger compartment since I don't want to deform the foam seals around the doors and windows.

I do it the same way. The power saver system kicks in after I think 15 minutes. I am in a safe area and my garage is lock so I am not worried about locking the car let alone arming it.

Oops, I just found the section in the owners manual. You have to use the rear outlet with the Chevy battery maintainer. The one up from disconnects when the ignition is off.

If it disconnects when the power is off, how does a person jump the car when the battery is having a hissy fit? Surely not directly at the battery in the rear of the car???

This post explains a working method.

I can also post the wiring schematics, but I don't think that's called for.

This is the positive terminal after flipping up the cover

Here's a good ground located on passenger side down and to the right of the alternator

Guys... I was wondering "hoping" if I could use my C6 2013 battery tender, that I just bought last April..... with my new C7. I'm thinking they are both 12 volt Vette's... but I didn't want to take any chances. Guys any reason why I CAN'T use this tender on my C7? Thanks for any info!

They are identical down to the logos, I believe. You will be just fine - 12v is 12v.

Here are a few ideas for you guys wanting to hard-wire a quick disconnect.

I'll be ordering these, myself, and installing it in the next few days. They're made by Ctek (the same maker of the Corvette charger).

Note that the official Corvette Battery Maintainer is designed to plug into the 12V Accessory Power Outlet located in the trunk on the passenger side. It does not turn off when the ignition is off. (See page 10-30 in Owners Manual). Also, the wire is thin enough to pass thru the gasket when the hatch is closed. I have one and it works great. As a seperate note do not plug into a GFCI protected outlet or it will not work.

He's referring to the cig lighter ("accessory") sockets - one in the center console and the other in a popup in front of the cup holders. Not the battery connections under the hood...

Thanks for these great pics. Is this hot post switched or un switched?

I am looking to find a switched and another un-switched hot side for a new fuse box location and need to find both hot and keyed-hot supply.

I'm on the same bus as you are. I plan on reusing my connection to the engine bay and the posts that are used to jump the car. I thought his statement needed clarification or maybe it was just me. Geezers can get confused as they grow older!
