Default American Racing Headers installed on C7 Grand Sport

The Vette Doctors installed American Racing Headers and tuned my Z51 with about 700 miles on it. Gained 34.5 HP and 41.3 lb ft of torque. I don't think I'll ever take it out of Sport mode, because it sounds mean as hell with the headers now.

Are your headers mid-length? Do they use factory cats? Any pics of the headers?

Mid length. You lose 2 of the 4 factory cats.
Blurry picture, but here's what's removed

Do the mid-length headers throw a CEL? I'm curious if the mid-length would stay within the normal emissions range for the C7.

The headers we installed were the ARH mid lengths and we opted to only keep the 2nd cats. They have a few variations in set up for the C7, we chose this because initially he didn't want to tune the car and this set up shouldn't throw a check engine light. The install went smoothly and as you can see we are impressed with the results.

Looking forward to getting another C7 in the shop and using some long tubes!

Bgood, With our 49 State legal cats you will not see a cell.

Nice work Vette Doctors! And thanks Silverdevil for choosing ARH.

Thanks. My thoughts are to go with a set of headers that will agree with the stock tune and emissions. This would give me a little bump in HP/TQ and a little different sound while maintaining the ability to take factory updates during the warranty period.

I'am seriously considering getting these installed as my first mod at Vette Drs. If two cats are removed, would this show up as the sensors being deleted when the car goes to get inspected?

Great results, seems the engine responds well to better breathing for sure.

In Michigan, there is no longer smog tests nor is there a yearly state inspection.

However, if you are running an off-road system a lot of places will not work on your car; Midas, Tuffy..... (how many $70k C7s are going to end up at places like this before they are 10 years old?). Speedshops generally get by with the race car / off road use only disclaimer (at least in Mustang circles and where I've been the last 18 years spending money).

I've run a non-catted supercharged, all out Mustang for a very, very long time along with another high-flow catted Mustang. The non-catted car has never been anyplace other then my garage and a speedshop for work. The high flow catted one has been to the dealer many times without issue. That one went from a 4 cat to a 2 cat high flow system.

With improvements in technology, removing the cats is not the same quick HP gain it once was, however, 4 cats is an awful lot and going to a two high flow setup has advantages in performance and sound!

If your a 'greenie' and really want to argue the importance of having cats for the environment, why don't we talk about how most cars now have an air pump which just pushes air into the exhaust to dilute the tail pipe emissions. Dilution is the solution. So, we'll pump air into the exhaust to meet an artificial feel good number based on mislead tailpipe sniffing politics while turning a blind eye to the fuel efficiency expense of running that pump which further defeats the end objective even more. I am just saying.

Jacque, if you leave our 49 State cats in place you should be able to get thru without a problem. To be honest, I wouldn't bother deleting the second set of cats with our Mid Legths. They don't do enough to restrict power unless you plan internal engine upgrades.

Thank you. I had headers installed in my C6 back in 08 by someone else and we had issues with the o2 sensors. Cannot go wrong with ARH and Vett Drs locally.

those are some pretty decent gains for not needing a tune or even throwing a code. This really makes me rethink my header choice. How sure are we this will not throw a code on the stock tune? also does this keep the A/F ratio in a safe range just wondering if there would be any adverse long term effects. AND MOST OF ALL POST SOME SOUND CLIPS

How much would long tubes add over this set up? An additional 10rwhp or so?
