Default C7 Oil Consumption.... Pics inside

We are installing our VR500 Performance Package on a 5000 mile Z51 Stingray this morning and got quite the surprise when we removed the factory induction system.

Has anyone else seen this? It is worth removing the inlet tube from the throttlebody and taking a peak. Engines prefer to burn fuel, not oil.

Dry sump? That can happen when the tank is over-filled.

That's not good. So we need a catch can too.

The manual being wrong about dry sump oil capacity will most likely end up causing a lot of this.

That was a big blunder on GM's part.

We have seen this many times as well on dry sump C6/C6Zs. Unfortunately if it was overfilled, it was done during assembly or topped off by a GM tech that didn't know how to properly fill a dry sump system. Customer is here while we perform the mods and he said he hasn't been in for his first oil change yet.

Our customer will return in 500 miles to see if the issue continues. We removed his intake manifold and cleaned all of the oil out of it that we could.

Given they missed putting oil in the diffs in some cars......anymore it wouldn't surprise me.

When PDI goes horribly wrong: top off the oil to the manual spec (overfill), and don't check the rear diff.

Priceless.

True statement... And dealers think the aftermarket is the problem...

We got the update page in our manual and posted information months ago about this. We have 2700 miles on our Z51 and have never seen a drop of oil in our CKN intake.

I predicted this issue last year October: Check out my post http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-t...condensed.html and look at Post 2.
Just remember, it is your responsibility to make sure these shops do not screw up. The first time 10.5 or 11 quarts gets poured in, under high performance running, you will likely puke that oil into your intake system.

Not taking anything away from you on that, but imagine how many people didn't get the update and aren't on the forums to see the post.

Okay, that's the 1st I've heard of this issue. Since it's been brought up, why doesn't someone explain? What's the manual say, and what's the correct amount?

The owners manual stated 10.3 qt.

The supplement to the manual states 9.8 qt.

I would post the service bulletin / resolution guide on this very topic back from November, but I'm not sure if that's allowed.

Why not?
