Ready for third set of rotors!!! I can't be the only one
Has anyone had problems with their rotors after tracking the car ????
My 1st set with stock pads lasted about 4 track days and my 2nd set lasted 2 track days with Carbotech XP10s and XP8s.
It appears as the center of the rotor surface is running very hot. It starts out with what looks like a circle of pad buildup in the center of the rotor surface and then the rotor surface start to distort.
The rotor surface is, I'll call it wavy. It creates brake shudder as I don't believe the distortion is constant around the rotor.
The cooling rings have been installed for whatever they are worth.
Love the car, brakes are getting a little annoying.
Right now it it just on one of the fronts but I have seen it on the rears as well on the first set.

I would imagine some backing plates and ducts would help. The stock brakes look pretty stout the only thing I can think of is how your using them and the compounds. My M3 weighs the same as this car with 4 wheel stoptech's, same size discs and stops great on the track. It may be a poor rotor design, maybe look at aftermarket hats and rotors.

The rotors have zero normal wear on them.

2 sets for one day? Sorry, but that is nonsense. A reasonable "minimum" about of time to get from a set of rotors might be 5 full track days or 500 miles. These cars should not be costing us $500 for rotors every day out.

Aggressive pads and direct cooling to the disc will be your friends. Better rotors will help a little. Factory brakes other than the ones on the zr1 always suck if you drive aggressively on a track. I finally ended up with 14in Brembos on my high hp zo6.

Scraping the splitter.

These are Brembo's on this car. Has to be a solution to this, I would go aftermarket racing rotors.

Not the same. If you compared the two you would realize differences.

There was an interesting review of the C7 brakes by a vendor that sells BBKs. Not surprisingly, they made some good observations regarding deficiencies in the stock and Z51 setups when used on the track. They felt the Z51 brakes probably had sufficient thermal mass, but we're not designed with enough cooling. IMO the cooling rings are an indication of this.
As you know, brakes with high thermal mass will do well for a turn or two on the track, but if you aren't getting the heat out between corners you will quickly overheat. I have a stoptech BBK on my Z, and the pads and rotors last a very long time. Check out the link to the vendors review and see if you agree. Might be that a BBK would make track days more enjoyable.

Your dealing with a stock part so I would not expect miracles.
Just because it says BREMBO on them doesn't mean they are great.
Brembo makes brakes at all levels. For the street they are probably killer and for a few laps they may be good but if you want to go pound on them all day you need something better than OEM. My Regal GS has Brembo's at the time of its release there were only 2 cars that stopped better than it, the ZR1 and the 911 GT3, but after 4-5 hard stops they were shot. Great for the street, not capable for hard track driving.
Brembo makes a caliper for the Ford GT, CTS-V, and a few other higher end cars. Dimensionally identical but they are far from the same caliper even though you can swap them around.
I would be happy to get 4 track days out of a set of rotors with track/race pads.
I assume the C7 is your first Corvette, my comments were based around my experience with the C5 and its tendency to blow up rotors.
If your going to be doing a lot of track days invest in some decent 2 piece rotors and cooling. They will last a lot longer.

I was thinking of my experience with the C5/C6 that had a tendency to eat rotors.
Personally I would bring a spare set of fronts regardless, no brakes, no track.
Just in case who knows what could happen.
