Default 7 speed manual - gear crunch into 2nd and sometimes 3rd

When the car is cold, I experience a small crunch when shifting into 2nd, and sometimes 3rd. If I wait a second before shifting into 2nd, no crunch.

No problem with any other gears.

When hot, no problem at all with 2nd and 3rd.

Any one else have this problem?

I haven't noticed this but it is fairly normal IMO when the car is cold until the transmission gets some miles on it. I after 4,000 miles if is doing it, I might get it checked.

Appreciate your reply.

By the way, my shifter **** also is turned to the left just a hair too much.

In others words, unless you are in 7th, it looks like it faces 11:30 on the clock instead of 12:00

Is yours that way as well?

Thanks

Never had that issue with my car and I've got 7000 miles on it and it's been cold here!

Is it possible that you are not pressing the clutch all the way down?

I'd take it to the dealership for them to look at.

I've found that to be pretty normal when the car/trans is cold and if you are short shifting it at low RPM's. My C6 Z06 did it and I've noticed it a bit on my C7. Only when cold short shifting. Not actual grinding but a bit on the notchy side until the trans is warmed up.

that has been a complaint since GM changed from the TR56 to the TR6060 for the 2008 model. Since the TR6070 is a TR6060 but with an additional gear, it seems the problem is still there.

GM has made some changes since the 2008 introduction, such as changing the design/material of the synchronizer cones, in an effort to help the problem.

I changed to a full synthetic transmission DEX III ATF fluid that helped a little, but normally, when cold, I pause slightly while going through the neutral gate, to give the spinning gear time to slow down before completing the shift into 2nd or 3rd gear.

What is the spec for the transmission fluid? The owners manual just says to see the dealer. I've been a huge user and fan of Redline transmission fluids in previous cars and would like to see if they have anything available for the 7-speed.

I believe it is still the same as for the TR6060. DEX III ATF.

I use the Mobil1 DEX III ATF as it is a full synthetic. I tried Royal Purple first and it made the condition worse. Quite a few in the C6 section said they saw improved cold shifting using Redline.

Appears that Redline D4 ATF would be the stuff?

I have noticed this as well. Only happens on very cold days when the transmission is cold. On these days it takes a while for the transmission to get up to temperature and when it does warm up the crunch goes away. On warm days I do not notice this at all.

1-2, 2-3 shift crunch, my 2014 Z51, has done this from day 1, was told it would break in around 2500 mi, 3200 miles on it now dealer and GM can't agree wether it's normal or not, Tremec says no it should not happen. My car has been at the dealer for 14 days now, car is apart, transmission out and replacing synchros, no guarantee it will solve problem. If what all back together and problem persist, I will pursue a new vehicle with auto transmission compliments of GM!!!!!!l Ridiculous!!!!!!!

I have the same issue on my 2004 6 speed manual with 40K miles. In cool/cold weather grinds going into second and third until it warms up. Don't have the issue most of the time here in Florida but below 60 degrees it will do it. I am thinking about taking the center console off and trying to align the shifter better. I guess we could just skip second and third until it warms up. BTW what is short shifting referred in another post above.

Edit: I also changed to Amsoil Torque Drive awhile back and it did not help. I may switch back to GM fluid.

mine does the same unless the revs are just perfect, I wouldn't worry too much about it just make a mental note on at which rpm is the best to shift at.

I used Amsoil torque drive in my Z06 with good results so looks like I will need to do the same again.

Almost 10k miles and mine still does it. I am going to change the fluids to Redline before I get it out of storage next year. I will also change the rear diff fluids then..

Mine does it bad 1st-2nd when its cold. Sometimes it pops out of second when i put it in cold. No problems 2nd-3rd. I had a mgw shifter installed made 1st-2nd even worse when cold. I might try switching to redline as well.

Unacceptable that crunching is parts eating themselves
Had the same issue with an older GM T56 took some aftermarket parts to solve the problem.
