I think it is WAY hotter in that tunnel than they expected since the exhaust is above the tunnel plate now. My C5 and C6 shifters never looked like this after many miles.

Update 6/11/14: Full PDF of MGW Short Shifter installation available here: MGW-C7-Shifter-Install.pdf
After a few requests for this thread, I wanted to put the information out there. This is certainly not difficult, but it helps some people to have a step-by-step to go by when they're in the car and away from a laptop.

My MGW is arriving tomorrow, and I hope to add a few actual pictures of the process, as I believe MGW still uses the C6 instructions for the C7 (and I may be incorrect there, but that's how it originally was).

Reverse steps, and re-install components. Enjoy your new shifter!

Noticed in a couple of other threads on the MGW install, and in the picture in post # 160, that the shifter is not in the 7:00 positon, but in the 6:00 position, and those who have installed it in the 6:00 position, said it still worked perfectly. MGW's videos and narrative all say 7:00.
Any thoughts/concerns about the difference, and am I correct that that position is set/locked at the MGW factory, and we can not make adjustment ourselves. Installing mine in a couple of days.
Thanks. John

Thanks Ced4jets! As the latest ones are coming with the 6:00 positon, your thinking of a design change makes sense. Just wanted to confirm this before installing mine.

I doubt it - while it can't be entirely ruled out in a single case (if by chance it was hindering the shifter's movement), I believe we mostly (perhaps nearly all) have torn rubber boots and are not experiencing the problem.

I searched the forum, but couldn't find this information: If you want the GM part number for the rubber boot that is modified when installing the MGW shifter, it is 24265270. This is for my 2014 vert. I am assuming that this is the same part number for 2015 as 2014, but it wouldn't hurt to check. I ordered one today at my local Chevy dealer after ordering the MGW shifter, as I wanted to be able to restore the car to OEM condition if desired. $24.60, not bad at all.

Theta thanks for the write up! Everything worked like a charm except for the allen wrench falling out of sight. I haven't been able to get it back out so far. Will it damage anything if left? Thanks.

MGW Shifter installation tip on C7
The installation of the MGW shifter went off without a hitch thanks to this thread and everyone's inputs. I did find a technique that can help with the alignment of the shifter to the transmission linkage rod during the installation. Instead of doing a visual alignment check of the rod notch to the linkage rod clamp as shown in the MGW install video, simple use a letter "P" drill (the back end with no flutes) inserted into the clamp and through the rod notch. Along with the MGW alignment tool, this gets the shifter in the perfect position to tighten down the two main mounting bolts. Then, remove the drill and install and torque the clamp bolt.
The result, as all of you know who have done this, is that the interface to the transmission is extremely positive and precise. It definitely changes the driving experience for the positive, in a big way. The slight "crunching" going into 2nd and 3rd it had when cold is now gone. There is no ambiguity about what gear you are going into. A fantastic upgrade for the money. Hats off to MGW for putting out this product at an excellent price and quality.

MGW installed
A big thank you to Theta for all the hard work putting together step by step instructions and the .pdf file. I loaded it on my laptop and used it for a trouble free install. For those of you contemplating this mod....just do it! The shift feel is perfect.
I roughly measured the 3 to 4 shift at the top of the lever without the **** and found the stock throw to be 3 1/4 inch and with the MGW installed it fell to 2 1/4 inch.

I thought I was happy w/ the stock shifter until I read all of the great reviews about this one and of course I had to do it! Installed today and the description of the feel of it that has been used from deadbolt to bolt action is right on. My OCD is kicking in and I may take it back apart to turn the gear lever 1/8" to the right, looks straight but feels like it is slightly left, I think it may be due to the new neutral position. Feels a little more forward than before.
Does anyone else notice an increase in heat coming up through the tunnel? I installed the Dynomat as well as the 3 pieces of foam as per the video but seems like I can feel more heat now when driving is more 'spirited'. Thanks for a great write up Theta, very well done and the use of the trim tools was invaluable from removing the trim to disconnecting the electrical connections.
