Another MGW C7 Shifter Review...

At some point I may also change the stock lower box for a spare that came out of my Z06 that has metal bushings instead of rubber. Did not think about it when I was swapping shifters.

Melting Slicks
Just for an experiment, I installed an old B&M shifter I had laying around the workshop.
It fit perfectly except the B&M shaft is straight while the stock shaft has a 5° to 10° angle.
The stock **** fit perfectly, too. But the **** is angled too far to the front.
Anyway, ignoring that for the moment, the shorter and firmer shift were similar to the MGW I had in my C6. So in my opinion, the same upgrade path for the C6 applies to the C7.
One thing that GM should have done was to improve the 2 large mounts. They still use the tiny rubber bushings which move around a lot and eventually give out. If you DON'T plan to upgrade the shifter to the MGW, replace the rubber bushings with the aftermarket bushings. You can get the urethane ones from ZIP or the larger rubber bushings from eBay or a number of other Forum vendors. I like the rubber ones because they give better vibration isolation than the urethane ones.

As you've read, it's well worth it. But, I also understand looking for a deal if it's out there.

I've had multiple short throw shifters in the past. In each case wrestled with additional noise, rattliing, etc.
Anyone that has installed the MGW have any extra noise or vibration issues?

Just placed my order today. From day one I was not a fan of the stock shifter. I felt it too long and going from 4th to 5th was an issue for me at top speed. (hit 3rd a few times). With 3000 on the car now, I am more comfortable with the stock shifter but still not totally happy so I just decided to make the move and seeing the relative ease of the installation. Will post a follow up after the install.

Looks like I need to add this to the C7 parts list.
I have an MGW in my C6, and I love it. I'm too lazy to pull it out before I sell my C6 to install in my C7 (I still have the stock shifter in a box somewhere...)
On a positive note, it looks like taking the center console apart on the C7 is WAAAAAY easier than the C6. The C6 was a PITA!

There is an extra wiring tray under the console and getting all the electrical connectors loose takes most of the time.

I order mine yesterday and today got a call (voice mail) from MGW stating it will be two weeks before shipping. Must be out of stock and in production. BTW I went with the original and not the flat stick version. There is an option to buy an extra handle for 15.00....anybody know what this is?

That way, you could have both a factory and aftermarket thread. It comes in handy if you want to change to a different **** down the road.

I ordered on Monday and got the same call on Tuesday. I'm not in any rush and I like that they reached out personally to me to let me know. This will be my 3rd car to have an MGW. Would have been 4 if they ever made one for the Gen II CTS-V Well worth the money IMHO. The C7 trans is better than the C6 but still has the same sloppy shifter.

I installed the MGW shifter in my 2015 c7 z51. Followed the video to the letter. All went well except I can't shift into reverse. I haven't driven the car yet, just played with the gears but can't get the shifter into reverse. Any ideas why????
