Default Tech 2

Does the Tech 2 still work with C7's (with the appropriate update to the module)?

I haven't tried an actual Tech 2 but the Tech2Win software does, which is just a Tech 2 Emulator, so I don't see why it wouldn't...

I don't think a tech2 will work. You'll need a MDI box.

Updated mine through TIS about 2 weeks ago, I was hoping the 2014 would be in the download but it was not.
I can't seem to get a direct answer if there will be another Tech 2 update, I think they are on the fence.

If you have a Candi mondule it should work, I'll give it a try sometime next week when we get ours back...

The Tech 2 is not going to work on the 2014 Stingray, it has the Global Architecture Platform. It will require the MDI with the GDS-2 software for code retrieval and data. The MDI is the recommended method of reprogramming, I have been informed that the J-2534 pass-thru- through the Tech 2 can work for programming only but is not recommended. As of right now there are not anymore Tech 2 software updates coming out, I just downloaded the last and latest version 33.004 which ends with 2013 GM- to my Tech-2

That's a big risk, so I'm glad you posted that. I think some people are going to learn expensive lessons with the passthrough method.

Well it looks like DIY for the Global Architecture Platform is totally out of the picture...crap!

Hopefully, there will be some REASONABLY priced tool that we can use to look at codes and troubleshoot after the warranty is over. The subscription prices for MDI are unreasonably abusive for casual use.

Not entirely - you can still pick up an MDI on eBay and use the ACDelco tool online on a short basis for a reasonable price when you need to do something.

It's not exactly cheap, but it's doable.

Yeah, you can get a 2 day TIS subscription for $55 and use a J2534 tool to reprogram/update them. I've done a few E92's this way with no issue...

Big yes to the 2-day $55, but the J2534 makes me squeamish if used in the wrong hands. I'm sure you know what I mean there.

Understood, as long as you have a quality tool (no ebay $30 BS) with the correct drivers/firmware they work fine.

Had my C7 checked out at Carlisle over the weekend and the tech told me the Tech 2 was not used to diagnosis issues with C7s. I didn't ask what equipment was used but he had a laptop and a small box that plugged into the car's diagnostic port.

That small box is the MDI.
