Oil Change . . . not enough miles

Oil Change . . . not enough miles
I picked up my Corvette at the Museum back on Dec 9 -- but with health issues for both my wife and I -- I only had 1,850 miles on the car when I took it in for the first oil change the other day.
Car is fine. But . . .
They used a in-house coupon to cover the cost -- and said that Chevy wants the free oil change that comes with the first two years -- to have at least 8,000 miles on the car (for each one).
So my 1,850 miles did not cover it.
Is this true? If so, why would a lack of driving result in not covering the oil change?
Thanks, Roger

This is NOT true. I got mine at 2000 miles, with Mobile 1, at a dealer I did not buy from (but have been taking my vettes to for 260,00 miles).
I think a lot of the dealers are confused, because at this time (six weeks ago), they thought it was as many as I wanted for the two years, and questioned my bringing it in that early (80% remaining). I told them this was my fourth corvette engine, and said better safe than sorry. I bet the next time (next week at 25%), it will be "You have this oil change and two, more, Mam."

I got an oil change at like ~2700 miles. I had a track day coming up and wanted the original oil out, and fresh oil in for the event. They tried to charge me. I said it should be free, and that I get like 4 oil changes in two years free or something. It was like a big deal that I didnt have more mileage, or that my oil life meter wasnt at like 20% or less or something. (It was at like 50% which is where I usually change it according to those things).
Eventually they relented, I've bought several cars there, and I told the guy if it made him feel any better to just say that the oil life meter was at 15%. They never checked before hand anyway.
To me, if the rules say I get 4 free oil changes if within the first two years, and I want to get them in the first four weeks, let me.

1. Check engine oil level and oil life percentage
2. Change engine oil and filter, if needed.
So after reading the above I called my dealer and asked what the percentage had to be to get the free change. They said 20% or less. So I said since I am at 45% I guess I won't waste my and your time coming in now and they said, good idea. (2014 was on the road as of 28 February and has 1370 miles).
From reading the other posts on the same subject it looks like every dealer makes up their own rules on the free oil changes. Anyone from GM or knows someone from GM that can settle the issue would be appreciated I am sure for more folks than just me.

The rule is 2 changes per year free for the first 2 years. I would never go over 1500 miles on a new motor without changing the oil. TT the service manager or dealer and if they won't help call GM.

The rule is whatever your dealer wants to do. My dealer will change my oil (Mobil1) 4 times within 2 years without any restrictions to mileage or oil life percentages .........period.

I think a lot of dealers are confused because the other previous maintenance plans (GMPP smart care, Certified Pre Owned and Business Choice) required the oil life monitor to be at or below 20% before they would authorize the service.
I have a couple Stingray customers that have already used 3 oil changes and they're not even over 10k miles yet.

Bought my car last December and had no issues getting it changed at 1000 miles a couple months later then again this month at 4500 miles. I'll do it again regardless next spring then use my 4th one right before i hit my 2 years late next year. We paid for it up front, get your 4 'free' oil changes

Sure is refreshing to know that the dealers are at the top of their game. LOL.
Really, it's a sad state of affairs when the dealers don't even know what the rules are regarding a simple item like a free oil change.
