Default Problems shifting from 1st to 2nd

I cannot go from 1st gear to second especially when making a left hand turn 50% of the time. The shifter gets stuck (on a gate?) and will not slide rearward into second gear. I have to make sure the shifter is in neutral by wiggling it side-to-side, then it will slide into second. I have almost been hit from the rear several times because of this. Second gear also grinds sometimes during this shift when cold.

Going to have the dealer look into it.

Seems to be a lot of complaints about shifting difficulties. With previous generations the usual suggested first step was to do a shifter alignment. With my car I found that it was something that I needed to do every few months, so you might want to find out how to do it yourself if you are at all mechanically minded.

Sure this isn't simply the 1-4 ship shift function?

^Hmm could be!

I thought that was merely a suggestion, but in reading the manual, it says that when the message is displayed, 2 & 3rd are locked-out.

Is this mode present in all driving modes? I spend most of my time in T or E (on the freeway).

I hope it can be programmed out with HP Tuner.

No need to do this.
Just buy/install a CAGS skip-shift Eliminator.
For $30, and a 5-minute DIY install, the 1-4 forced shift is eliminated.

You will see a Skip Shift message briefly in the center display when this is happening.

I have gotten into the habit over the years of driving GM Skip Shift manuals to do 1-3 shifts when driving leisurely.

The CAGS eliminator is the easiest/cheapest/only warranty friendly way around this nuisance. Or tune it out for free if you're committing to the tune route.

If you are turning, you may not be going fast enough to keep the forced shift to 4th from engaging.
IF you pause, then it will go to 2nd, which sounds like exactly what you are experiencing.
