Default 2014 Z51 max tire sizes

hi, dose anyone out there know what the max size tire I can fit on my 2014 z51 ? I want to keep the rims, just wider tires. I don't want them to stick out of the fenders or have rubbing issues.
thanks. Anthony.

Here's a set of tires that are within spec:

Pilot Sport Cup 2
Front, 255/35-19
Rear, 295/30-20

That does include a tire diameter increase so a popular setup is like this:

Front, 265/35-18 tire, 18 x 9.5 56mm wheel
Front, 275/30-19 tire, 19 x 9.5 56mm wheel
Rear, 305/30-19 tire, 19 x 11 79mm wheel
.

I went back to my stock black Z51 wheels because I love the look. I mounted up my 315/30/20 rear and 265/35/19 888s and have zero rubbing on fully dropped bolts (I swear to you, not a single rub with highly aggressive driving). The very slight rub you'll see there is from the Crays and being fully lowered.

Absolutely flush with the fenders - I was a little tired of the stuck-out look from the +74 offset on the Cray 11" wheels I had back there.

I'm hesitant to post unsolicited pictures, as we have at least one user who likes to do that on every thread, but I will post these if they help you out. I will remove them if you ask me to.

Hi Theta, how close is the diameter on those 888 compared to the stock Z51 tires? I like that combo for a set of track tires on my stock wheels.

I'm showing the front OE tires as 25.8", and the rears as 26.5". Even though that seems correct on paper, that breaks the 1.1" - 1.3" general recommendation for the MRC to keep it together. At 0.7", that seems off...

The 888s are 26.3" in the front and 27.6" in the rear. That's right on the edge of the 1.1" - 1.3" difference for proper calculation, but I've had no issues with the PTM or MRC during the last 300 miles.

...Which wouldn't be so bad, but this individual really needs to take some new pics so the same 4 pics aren't plastered all over the forum.

Thanks for the pics theta, considering getting a set of 888's in that size this week, got a picture from the rear to see those meats? How do they hook? I've never been happy with 285's on these cars

I tried to take some for you in the garage, but the fish-eye effect just killed any chance of an accurate representation. I'll snap a pic next time I have it out.

Traction is obviously still an issue with these, but even 375s have issues at my power level.

Your setup provides some pretty good info. So you had a 315/30/20 on a 20x11 et.+74 wheel and it did not rub at stock height at all, but when you lowered it, it rubbed just "very slightly"?

I see your setup now is equivalent to the guys running the TSW's (they are 14mm outboard and you are 15mm outboard now with 315's on the stock wheels) and you said zero rubbing. Sounds like you fell into the group that is lucky enough not to rub with those specs. I am surprised to hear you had only slight rubbing with a setup that put you 20mm outboard from stock setup!

Correct. On the TSWs (Crays), no (zero) rubbing at stock height (which looked like a 4x4 in my case), slight (I think this is the best term to use) rubbing when lowered all the way down and flogging it. You can see the amount of rub from looking at the tire pic - that's from the TSWs. Obviously, though, the goal is to not rub at all. With where it was on the tire, you can see how little it needed (a few mm) - I was tempted to lightly shave the inner fender.

The 888 315s are around a normal 305 size, which helps (it brings the outboard closer to 10mm). The difference between that +74 and +79 (5mm) was enough to bring them in and not rub.

I think I may just have a 'lucky' build tolerance, as I've not heard of others who have gotten away with running with my setup. Then again, I don't know if anyone else has tried. I just thought I'd take a shot for $150 of re-mounting/balancing.

Your experience trying different setups and trial and error is appreciated, I wish we had more of it. But you nailed an important subject which many don't understand with wheel fittment...the significance of tire brand and the varying sidewall thicknesses. Now that you mention the 888's run more narrow your setup is starting to make a lot of sense in how much rubbing you experienced. At 10-11mm outboard you were prob right at the threshold which is why you rubbed at extreme conditions/max drop.

Thanks for the info man!

Great information....I want my wheels/tires to be more flush with my Z51 C7. When the tires need replacing, I might do this instead of getting different wheels. My wife loves the chrome wheels, so tires would be an easier replacement.

Just to clarify, do you mean the 315 and 265 Toyo's fit fine on the stock Z51 rims?

In my case, yes. I can't guarantee this will work for everyone, though.

Theta, since some time has gone by from when you posted on this thread, can you provide an update with your Toyo tire combo on stock Z51 wheels? Still no issues? Do you know of anyone else (besides yourself), that went with the same combo?

No issues whatsoever.

Had a good (hard) driving session just today (full tank of meth in less than 50mi), in fact. Checked mid-way and coming back in for any fender damage and/or or cutting/scraping of the tires. Everything's been working great - for once, a tolerance 'problem' works in my favor. Go figure!
