We shall see.

My SC'd car runs at 205 degrees. AC on, AC off, 205 degree's. 65 degree's or 95 degree's, 205.

After WOT it will hit 210-215 and just drop right back to 205.

Tomorrow the 170 T-Stat goes in.

This is off a Bosch ODBII hook up I leave on all the time.

It also runs with the fans at 90 percent constantly.

Well here is an end to the argument.

As I said my SC car runs at 205 degree's, ALL THE TIME.

If its 65 degrees out it takes 20 minutes to get to 205, then it stays at 205.

If its 90 degree's out it takes 5 minutes to get to 205, then it stays at 205.

Ambient temp was 84 according to the sensor on the car.

Had the 170 degree, and it might a 180, installed today and the fans adjusted to match.

The car is near silent now, and that is the telltale. The fans are barely running compared to running full blast to keep it at 205.

Sitting in traffic, 185-187 degrees. AC On sitting in traffic 192 or so. Sat idling in the shops parking lot for 10 minutes, fans barely audible, 185 degree's.

On freeway at 70mph and 185 degree's ran unto 125mph, 4th gear the whole way, at end of run 197 degree's.

Setting in 6th at 80mph and within a mile down to 190 degree's, another mile or so back down to 185.

Same car, same SC, same driver, fans are irrelevant because they do not even really run now.

Only difference the T-stat.

Oh and the gauge still says 220.

Remember, after 20 minutes regardless of temp I was at 205+. That same 70-125 run produced a 215 degree temp, then back down to 205 in about the same period of time as with the new T-stat.

Exactly. And you can easily believe that the LMR 160 will keep it at 175 rather than 185 with the 170.

Thank you for posting your findings.

For $22 ECS should include it in their kit.

Of course now with the lack of the fans I hear the bearing in the SC...that was one thing I never really liked about super chargers, that rocks in a can noise you get. I thought mine did not have that but the fan noise was always masking it.

The plus is now you hear the SC itself, not the whoosh but the whistle up to speeds where the tire noise drowns it out.

Wish I would have known about this from the start, would have done it with the install.

I agree, it should be part of most modification programs, LMR, Vengeance, etc all include them in their builds....I guess since ECS is a supercharger kit company they leave that up to the builder/buyer.

To me its customer perception. I was extremely, and still am, happy with the ECS kit. For the power, price, drivability, etc bang for the buck nothing else out there.

However the fan noise was an instant disappointment. Every single person who drove in the car wondered what it was.

It doesn't even have anything to do with the temp. The car ran fine at 205 and if the fans weren't screaming I would not have done much because for the power level it was fine and not giving me any problems.

My opinion is from a customer service standpoint the noise level of the fans is unacceptable and its a simple fix.

No one told me about it ahead of time and considering all the posts here about ECS never heard it, only after I posted about it did others chime in with similar issues.

It's also possible they did not know about this T-stat, Doug was only aware of LPE's which is no longer available and of course LMR. Dr Phil posted about this Jet unit and I ordered one.

fair enough. i agree on the fan noise....my '15 6.2 truck fan is super loud when I walk around it to get the mail. :-)

debating the value in putting a thermostat on that though....it's an intake and long tube headers only truck. hmmm.....

I've got some useful info I thought I'd share. I ordered the Summit Racing Tstat (170*) and got it today. I am happy to confirm these are NOT the same as the Lingenfelter Tstats. These use a much thicker rubber seal and its actually made into the Tstat and is not removable like the LPE one was. I think this will hold up much better IMO. Here are some pics:

Here is an update from my original post for those with stock vehicles. I installed the '15 thermostat & housing (12658723) and with no other changes - running down the road temp went to 210-215F - an increase from my stock set up.

Not happy - but that is the data.

Today installed a Summit/Jet 180F stat - #10167 and it now controls between 185-190. Very happy. With no fan control mods and AC on it will control around 192 or so with limited run time at idle.

Hope this helps folks out there.

2014 Thermostat housing/thermostat/gasket #12657137 and $35.95

2015 Thermostat housing/thermostat/gasket #12658723 and $49.50

Anyone know if these are different 'stats and they interchange? At the school they said they did nothing to the cooling systems. Price difference? Could find no other specs.

Thanks

If you are hearing a rocks in the can at idle that goes away with RPM you may have an engine issue causing a rough idle that is jerking the supercharger belt (mine was a broken piston land). If the noise increases with blower speed then it may be a blower bearing issue. Just my experience.

It is the same sound I have heard with nearly every single centri on the market.

This one is better but I hear it.

I have the same one going in along with LG Super Pro headers. Would love to see my water temps around 180-190. I was on the highway today, highway speeds, 60 degrees ambient, 6th gear, and water temp of 206

BTW, I'm going for a full assault of IAT's: rear hood weatherstrip gone, plenum cover and blanket gone, wrapping radiator hoses, ceramic coating my Long Tubes, 170 degree stat... And trying to figure out how to insulate my AFE.

Can I log IAT's with my Diablo InTune?
