What is the best oil to use on the 2014 C7 Z51 package?
Hey fellow corvette owners, I recently purchased a 2014 Stingray Z51 performance package. Does anyone know what is the best possible oil I should purchase for my upcoming oil change? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I bought the car with 7200 miles on it but did not know there were any free oil changes associated with this car. Is there a certain mileage cap or do I call any Chevy dealership to get a free oil change? Thanks.

Just change it yourself. Mobil 1 5w30 and 1 M1 113 filter. Drain using the outer drain plug, then just let the other plug out slow so it doesn't hit the oil cooler. Dealer did my 500 mile change, never again.

Thanks, I will give these instructions to the service guy as I am not auto repair savvy at all to do this. I found out I have 3 more free oil changes left!

Mobil 1 is fine, but I'm not sure I'd call it "best." The truth is, any Dexos 1 or 2 'certified' oil, in the right viscosity (5W30) is fine. Choose a full synthetic for the "best" lubrication.

Just make sure you change it when the oil life monitor tells you to.
Oh, and don't believe claims that an oil "meets the Dexos specification." Either it's on GM's list, or it isn't.

Oil companies have to pay GM to get the Dexos certification. It's not anything special in the oil. Companies like Castrol refuse to pay money to GM for this certification. Castrol oil meets all Dexos specifications. That is all that matters to me. Nothing wrong with M1 if that is your preference.
My oil tests come back with glowing results so I'm sticking with the German Castrol Syntec. This oil exceeds the Dexos specification.

You may be right that Dexos is BS, but it's what GM specifies to maintain the warranty. I'm sure there are good oils that "meet" the Dexos spec that haven't paid GM for the license. OTOH, I think there are also some brands that are more BS than anything else that claim to "meet" Dexos specs but provide no evidence to support their claims. I can claim 3-in-1 oil meets Dexos if I don't have to prove it.
Buying a Dexos certified oil eliminates any question about whether it's adequate or not.
BTW, Castrol doesn't "refuse to pay GM." Castrol HAS paid to certify some of their other oils, so why not Syntec?

Castrol paying GM is news to me. I didn't think any of their synthetics were Dexos certified but I guess I'm wrong.

My personal preference over Mobil 1 of the readily available dexos1 certified oils is Penzoil Platinum Ultra 5w-30 (previously Penzoil Ultra). But free is hard to beat, and Mobil 1 is already overkill for the vast majority of Corvette owners (myself included). But I change my own oil and PPU is my favorite. If I were to choose a best oil it would probably be Amsoil Signature Series, but no dexos certification (and this is one that I'd bet exceeds the standard).
Wally World on-line has PPU 5w-30 back in stock for $28 5qt. Free shipping over $35.

I like Pennzoil Platinum 5/30, it seems to have more body, Mobil 1 seems watery to me.
I also prefer a Pureolator Gold or Wix filters over the GM filter these are just my preferences.
All well know brands will work if you prefer one of those have the dealer use it in your car, as long as it says Dexos Approved on the container it can be used to keep the warranty in force.

I use M1 15-50. It has better anti foaming properties than the lower viscosity M1. I have that on good account and I will be sticking with it. I track and autocross the car so I use 15-50 in accordance with the "Track Specs" laid forth in the manual.
The car put 420 down on the dyno stock with it in it and does nearly 450 on the ground now and I've not had any issues so far so I'll keep going with it. I state those figures just as a basis for it not sapping power due to the increased weight.
I trust my sources and they've not failed me yet.

I think I know the difference between DEXOS certification and Dexron trans fluid
