Installing cam price with AFM delete
So I found a shop they told me with the cam and install tune and dyno its $4600
Is that a good price I was looking more like $2800 to $3500 price range or am I wrong ?

More labor goes into a cam swap on an LT1 than previous engines plus they have to account for the AFM delete. Seems to be comparable to what the top shops charge.

easy to figure out....
what is their labor rate and how does it compare to reputable shops in the area?
how many hours are they charging to do the work and how does it compare to how many hours others have been quoted/have paid?
otherwise, prices for parts are readily available any where you look.
add it up and decide if it seems good to you.

2250 / 14 = 160/hr
2250 / 20 = 112/hr
around here a chevy dealer is 100/hr and a performance shop is in the 75 range....
75*20 = $1500, which is what I would expect to pay for an AFM delete cam swap labor on the LTx motor.
1500+100+1400 = $3000....plus tune (500 might be a lot if they have already done cam swaps/tunes before, they should be able to tune it in a lot faster than that)
the prices you gave equals 4200, not 4600. The difference between your 4200 and my 3200 really comes down to what is the labor rate in your area, things in TX are cheap vs up there.

Do your research is all I can say. If they're doing it correctly the parts alone are right at $2500+- on our cars, that's afm delete and DOD delete with a custom grind cam and head studs. Obviously it can be done cheaper, with an off the shelf cam, and keeping the DOD and reusing the factory head bolts... But if you want it done right and bullet proof, the parts alone will be as I said $2500ish, then 1500-2000 for labor and most reputable tuners would charger around $700+, so I would say that's a pretty good price even without doing all the extra stuff and using an off the shelf cam. $2,500.00 seems high, but I have not priced out the LT1 DOD delete parts. When I did my DOD delete cam package from Vector on my L76 G8 GT ( LS2 with DOD), the package was just under $1,300.00 + timing chain. I got my heads ported for $650.00 and the install was just over $1,000.00 ( 3 yrs ago - Iowa prices).
I would check with Pace Performance on LT1 DOD delete parts. Would guess a LT1 cam will be an extra $500-$700. Also, Livernois may have a DOD + cam package available. Their package on the G8 was about $500. more than Vector's.
Interestingly, I had someone ask me to sell them my DOD parts, for which I got a couple hundred $$$$. Good deal for both of us!

It's very expensive to do a cam on these, takes every bit 20 hours, plus lifters, trays, gaskets, oil, filter, fluids, katech cover, springs are more than lsx, cam is more than lsx, pushrods are pricey, phaser, tune, it all adds up and makes these things not cheap to cam that's for damn sir.

We are only a few hour drive down the NJ turnpike from NYC and are under $3600 out the door for a Dod delete cam swap on the C7's. That includes all parts, labor, tuning, and before/after printouts. No sales tax in DE either which is a big plus for everyone. Give us a call to discuss a combination to work right for your goals.
