Default What are modded Stingray guys running for rim/tire combos on the street?

I think I posted this earlier but in the wrong section. This may get more responses here so mods feel free to close the other one please.

It seems the more I look into rims the more confused I get.

I simply want to know what is the widest rim combo I can run on a 15 Z51 Stingray. The car is a Mag ride and not lowered at all. Factory height.

I am looking to run wider tires and most likely toyo r888s.

Also do you guys suggest staying 19 front and 20 rear or should I drop down to 18 front and 19 rear to get more rubber patch on the road?

I don't need an HRE forged rim. I am looking for a cost effective quality rim that is of equal or better strength/quality/weight than the factory rims.

Car has an ECS kit/meth/headers combo. Thanks for any help you guys can provide. I would love to just buy a set of used C7 Z06 rims from the forum but I am sure those would not fit properly.

Thanks for your time and help

chris

I know you aren't looking for forged options, but I'll still chime in with what I have and sizes. When NA and up to 550rwhp I ran a 19/20 combo (forgeline). I ran the 315 Toyo R888 all around. This setup worked great for me and hooked well. The R888 also did surprisingly well getting caught in the rain shedding water much better than a real drag radial. My car is lowered all the way on stock bolts.

I've since upped the power and ordered 18's for the back, so I'll now be running 19 front and 18 back with 305/40/18's in a MT ET Street SS. I'll have to report back on how this combo works. I know with the taller tire I'm giving up gearing and won't be as effective in the quarter, but should do well on the street and half mile. I'm at 750rwhp now and will likely be going to around 900 within the next year.

Depending on your power level, 19's in the back may be the happy medium. There are many more tire options out there in a 19 than 20 for our cars.

^^^ I am not against forged rims but has to be a more reasonably priced set. Maybe some CCWs? I am not sure. I would do 19s all around or 18s front and 19s out back or just stick with stock 19 and 20 sizes. Whatever is better for traction.

I just want to know if 11 inch wide is the widest rim you can do on a regular c7 in the rear. I know a 12 inch will be too wide unfortunately.

I believe 11" is the max. I would check with Ben though at WeaponX and see. He's pushed the pushed the limits on offsets and what can be tucked under the back of the regular C7.

The key is the offset though. The TSW's I had on before the Forgeline setup were only 10.5" in the rear and stuck out much further

We've spoken many times about wheels LOL

I can fit a x12 on the back with the proper offset, but a x11.5 with a 325 fits a little better due to inner wheel well variances.

Z06 WHEELS WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY! The offset is nearly 1" different. You can either run properly offset wheels, or do my widebody conversion of front/rear or rear only and then you can run Z06 wheels. I run a 20x10.5 and a 21x13 on my widebody.

^^^ LOL Ben that is why I didn't want to call and bother you again till I am ready to pull the trigger. I know you can get the correct sizes I just don't think I can afford you lol If you have a moment maybe you can call or pm me some of your lower priced options. As stated as long as the wheels are at least OEM weight and quality that is fine with me.

I know you deal in some beautiful high end wheels and im just not that big of a wheel guy. This is really more for performance than anything. I like the looks of the stock Z51/GS/Z06 wheels so any suggestions would help. Thanks and sorry if I gave off the impression I wasn't listening. I was it was just cost.

^^^ I also have done tones of research searching for a cost efficient wheel for my 16 z51. I can tell you it is not easy. We need to run offsets such as 79mm to 83mm. The rim companys that have the cheaper priced wheels normally run offsets from 73mm at best and lower. I found one wheel that's a 19x11 rear and 19x9 front that I have a good hunch I can fit a 325/30/19 out back. The set of wheels run about $1900 plus figure whatever tires you want that can vary. As soon as I am ready to spend the money I am going purchase the wheel and tire combo and I might just be the pioneer to coming up with the cost friendly wheel and tire combo for the narrow body c7. - Mike

Spoke to Ben earlier on the phone. Very helpful and a nice guy. We are trying to narrow down which Forgeline wheel will work for my car. I am thinking about the Comp series - GA3R wheels.

Can anyone tell me if these are the GA3R? If not which forgeline wheels are these? I really like these!

What rims do you have now? One way to manage the expense of these higher priced forged wheels is to split up the purchase. I have the factory split 5 spoke in black and I would be perfectly happy running those wheels above on the rear until I could scratch up the money for the front.

Like you, I'm not a *wheel* guy. I just want some affordable, oem quality wheels that let me run a bigger tire out back.

I do have 18"x10.5" ET51 front and 19"x11.5" ET83 wheels. They don't rub at all with 275/35/18F 305/30/19 combo. When I switched to 315/30/18F 325/30/19R combo (NT01), it was OK at the street, but it did rub with the stock suspension at the track, possibly due to much-increased traction and sway bars/springs not being up to the task. Since then, I switched to LG G2 coilovers + their sway bars + aggressive alignnment, and despite lower riding height, there is no longer any rubbing.

Gorgeous but looking a little further I think what I posted is the VX3X but your look awesome. What sizes and tires are you running and how do you like the set up?

I love the wheels. They are very light. What you see there is 19x9 I think in the front and 20x11 in the back. Toyo R888 tires 315/30/20 and up front if I remember right 265/35/19.

I swore I'd never pay for a set of custom wheels like this. I always said I'd put the money into more HP instead. Then I bit the bullet and bought the setup above and like a dumbass added more power and need a different setup. I should have known I wasn't done. I now have 18's on order for the rear. That's why I said I think a 19 could be a happy medium in terms of what I've run so far. I think VR was running an R888 in a 19 but on the z06.

I'll leave the new setup on most of the time unless I want to hit some curves and do some more aggressive twisty type driving. Once the R888 wear out I'll put some Michelin PSS on and it will be a road trip setup.

Default ttt

I went with 19,s in front and 18 in the rears but went with R888 on the rear plus in a tire size that didn't set off any sensors for the tires.

But I did go with a light weight forged set of rims. The car holds the road like a dream at almost 150 mph like on rails.. I went with same size rim wide on the front and 1 inch wider in the rear.

so in your opinion for someone who hasn't purchased yet should i look into a 19/19 set up? i was going to stick with stock 19/20 sizes but if 19 in rear is better for traction and performance i would go that route

I would do 19/9 in the front and 19/11.5 in the rear. I see toyo r888 come in 19 inch 325 size and says fits an 11.5 inch rim. Then they have a 20 inch tire that comes in a 315. Would the 19/325 in the rear set up fit without any rubbing issues? I'd be ordering from Ben at WeaponX

^^^ Talk with Ben on the rims if you dont get the correct offset in a 325 it will rub bad then if your car is lowered it is even worse on it. So Ben has done a great deal of wheels and has it down to a art on them. Robert

Working on your reply to PM

315 R888 is tall at 27.6" and 12.5" sec and 11.7" tread with approx 3.8" sidewall

vs.

325 R888 is closer to OEM at 26.7" with 13" sec and 12.5" tread with approx 3.85" sidewall

So, aside from the extra .8" tread on the ground with the 19", you get closer to OEM gearing. Since the sidewall is the same, I'd focus more on what you're driving style is intended for.
