Default Dim check engine light

Hi guys I just got a 2015 z51 corvette with 1900 miles at night I noticed the check engine light is dim. It's not on but you can see it at night is this normal?

Got a pic?

The CEL shouldn't be on at all unless the engine has thrown a code, and, as far as I know, it only has one shade or brightness.

Warning indicators are either on or off. If you have your dash lights at full brightness there may be enough reflected light to make some indicators appear to be dimly illuminated. Try turning down the brightness and see if it makes a difference.

Is there something else that isn't working properly? Do you have any aftermarket electrical items attached to the car? If so remove it and see what happens. Check your fuses (under the hood and in the rear) to see if any of them are blown. Sometimes when a fuse blows or you have an improperly attached electrical item in the car you can get a sneak circuit path through another circuit.

I have a feeling a light shield on part of the gauge cluster is missing so that you are getting light through the CEL area from the overall gauge illumination. Probably dealer time and a quick test for my theory is to turn the IP lighting down and see if the CEL dims with it.

Well definitely dealer time then. Appears to have stray voltage to that annunciator lamp.

Just for the heck of it ask your dealer to run the VIN checking for electrical repairs.

If you don't have a scanner that can read all of the codes including ABS, SRS, and body codes you may not realize there is a code.

Another thing that can cause the light turn on dim is a grounding issue where another circuit has a poor ground and is finding a path to ground through the CEL. If you have ever debugged trailer lights with a bad ground you may have noticed things like turning on a left turn signal causes the trailer tailights to flash even though the two sets of lights are on separate circuits and the tow vehicle's are off.
